You guys knew it was coming, but heres the official thread!
My new Epiphone Nighthawk! I picked up this baby yesterday at noon.
I had a full string change and set up done before it left the store.
I took it out to jam last night and put it through the paces.
I am in FAT CITY! These pick ups are the hottest I own.
It sounds thick on the neck mini humbucker and bites through on the bridge.
I switched mostly between the 4th position and the bridge in humbucker mode.
The coil tap feature is really nice. I used the single coils on a few tunes, and even though it adds more jangle, it still sounds fat.
I thought I might need to get used to the neck, because I've never bonded with Gibson style necks, but after the first song, I was already used to it. The neck is slim and fast and bends are really easy. I have 10's on it and it feels like bending 9's. The body is light and has a Trans Amber finish. I experienced no headstock dive like I read in reviews.
I am in love with this guitar and It is so worth the price paid. It is an excellent start to put me on Gibson Road!

Of all the guitars you were considering, I think you made the right choice. I, also, love the wide range of tones you can get from this guitar and on top of that, it look awesome! You can't beat the price for fit and finish, set neck and all that binding.

Enjoy yours!

Thanks CR. Do you play yours much? What pick up positions do you like best?

I was looking for something different. I think this fits the bill!

Looks great, congrats.

I hope you didn't tip the guy who set it up.

I recommend that you double-check the intonation - according to the picture, the A string has a shorter run than the D string, which is uncommon. Unless you asked for a very high action on the second and fifth strings, the intonation is likely incorrect. Compare the sound at open and 12th, and 5th and 17th fret on each string. Chances are you're not getting perfect octaves on all strings right now.

If the intonation is off, I'd double-check the action and relief too.

Less of an issue, but the next time you string it, you may also want to make sure that the winding goes downwards on the pegs, not upwards. It is not a big thing, but winding downwards puts a bit more angle on the string, making it stick against the previous loop a bit harder, and it keeps tuning a bit better.

(Purists are likely to make the first loop go above the string, and the rest go down - this is most useful on tuners with a slot in the top, to help prevent the string from slipping out, and also helps for acoustics with bronze strings, which are softer and more likely to slip out. On a steel core string, strings coming undone has never been a problem in my experience. You might want to make it a habit anyhow.)

Yoda...Congrats on the newest addition! It is quite the looker for sure, and you almost never see one of the Gibson versions for sale, so folks must like them because they never seem to turn them loose! Even Ebay doesn't have that many for sale.

Enjoy.

Here's the junior I bought, first pic after I got her home. I think $400 for an American made Gibson that looks and plays good isn't too bad!

No tip. The guy didn't even charge me for the set up, just the strings. Hopefully he didn't do a halfassed job.
I'll check out what I can but I'm still a novice in the set up department. The action doesn't seem high, and the chords sound good once tuned.

very nice yoda , not much wrong with epiphones mate , i have an sg400 , lp custom and a sheraton , all modded , . one of the best mods for epi's is to replace the bridge with a gotoh one , much better transference of sound 8) i then usually gut the guitar and rewire them 50's style with sd pups or gibson , all depends what the guitar sounds like , cheers

That was the main thing that was so appealing to me. But I've got to say I don't have a guitar that sounds like this one. I have duncan designed buckers in a Jagmaster and a SD lil 59 in the bridge of my tele, and neither are as hot as this one.

Congrats! Very nice guitar. I like the inlays on the neck.
