Musiciansfriend is showing a 15% discount for Black Friday. I am looking at getting a Fender amp which I know is on the exclusion list. I was wondering if any of you have been able to get the discount anyway. Let's face it, I am a cheapskate by nature and I am going to give it a try. I was just wondering if anyone else has been able to get it...

It depends, A Fender tube amp, my guess would be no, but you never know. However, in September of this year, I bought a Fender Kingman from them. They were closing them out SUPER cheap, I jumped on it. At the time MF had a 10% discount sale going. The automated check out said no to the 10% 'cause it was already on sale. Then they sent me a message saying that even though the discount didn't apply they were "in the business of selling guitars today" so call a sales rep. I called, guy said no discount for above reason, I said then, I at least need a case thrown in. He put me on hold talked to who I got the message from and gave me the guitar with the discount, if I bought the case with a 10% discount. I was very happy. So call them up and see if they'll dicker or get them to throw in a amp stand or some cables.

Truebluefliplover,

I've been playing Fender amps for 12 years now and I absolutely love them! Great choice!

Sincerely,

Send us an email and we'll get you taken care of with the best pricing possible.

...be sure you understand their return policies. Could cost you a pretty penny sending it back if YOU misjudged the product. I had to return a bass guitar case to an online vendor because the form fit case was not adequate to my Fender VI which has a Jaguar body. Cost me $60 to return the case I purchased for $90. At least the company could have offered to arranged for me to take advantage of the corporate rates they pay their shippers by charging the return to their account and refunding my purchase price less the return.....but NO. :? Had they made some accommodation for me for the return, I might have bitten the bullet and purchased a case they had which was satisfactory, and still be a client.....like for the Orange Bass Amp I just bought for that VI elsewhere. I guess my dollar's juice just wasn't worth their squeeze:wink:

I had a similar thing happen with an Epiphone Firebird case I bought from AMS to house an Orville by Gibson Firebird. It couldn't accommodate the banjo tuners and cost me $40 to return. I was almost as unhappy as you.

So here's the next step which further illustrates the issue. I've been noodling this new bass amp and running several of my guitars through it. I'm getting significant 60 cycle hum at high volume settings with all save my guitars with SCN pickups, includes the Fender VI for which it was purchased, my Lace Sensor guitars, and my Gilmour. I'm going to move the amp to a different room and A/B it with another solid state amp [ZT Club]. If the ZT is noticeably quieter I'm taking the amp back to GC. Can't do that at no cost to buyer with a mail order item.

Why don't you just get a Hum eliminator? http://www.guitarcenter.com/Nady-HE-1-H ... 1170919.gc

You can definitley return items from GuitarCenter.Com to a Guitar Center store. I've done it quite a few times. I wouldn't buy anything from their website if I didn't have that option. The store guys know. It's a standard procedure for those people.

That you are only hearing it for some pickups means it's a good thing (even though hearing the hum isn't) - the hum is in the signal chain, so the amp amplifies it. If an amp doesn't amplify a 60 Hz signal that is in the input, benign or not, it's not doing a good job as a bass amp.

The solution I'd recommend is to either
find and isolate what's causing the interference, e.g. by placing a Hum-X and/or metal shielding and/or a ferrite bead on that electric device (not on the amp),
or by putting something that removes the hum in the signal chain, like a high pass filter or a hum eliminator.

It's real bad form to come here and make this single post to sell something on Fender's forum. This post should be deleted (IMO). Have a nice day, Casey P.

I am the original poster. I ordered the Fender Hot Rod Blues Junior NOS from Musiciansfriend today. They gave me a 15% discount so it came to $509. I can't wait for it to arrive...

=thanks for suggesting that as an option. I was looking into that possibility. The product you posted is something I haven't seen before but will seriously consider.

=that's a definite plus, of course, not available with most online vendors.

Yah! Your input is greatly appreciated. The issue of 60 cycle hum is a personal one. Some love it, and feel goes hand in hand with the tone of single coil pups, like CSNY, an others absoutely hate it, particularly in a recording situation where the engineers want a 'silent' amp. Will look at both suggestions for eliminating the noise. I'm also considering swapping out the pups in this Fender VI Bass Guitar and have made inquiry as to what type of hum cancelling pickup would be the best replacement in this instrument.
BTW: Sweetwater's the outfit I had the costly return problem with and they're not going to see any additional business from me.

I've never purchased anything from Sweetwater. I've got a Guitar Center pretty close to me so I like them because they're easy. And they'll match pricing when I ask.

I haven't used the N3's for Bass, but the N3's for guitar are DEAD SILENT! They sound truly amazing!

Not sure if they'd fit in you 6 but I bet you could have Fender make them for you. They would be worth the money for sure!
