I think I may try busking at the mall on Black Friday.

I'll of course do simple tunes, and I'm definitely going to make a setlist. I'll also do some stuff I wrote.

Anyways, does this seem like a good idea?

Sure, give it a try. You could get run off by mall security. What's the worst that could happen? I doubt you'd get arrested.

Are going acoustic or are you going to use a battery powered amp?

Acoustic. I figure the way it looks will draw people towards me. People like trippy patterns.

I don't know what the busking bylaws are where you live but around here, malls are considered private property as they are generally owned by a company that sublets their store spaces etc. to other companies.Since the malls are privately owned they have the right to expel people who don't have the proper permits to operate or do business on their property. When busking in front of a store that's on a city street or on a street corner you are on public property and consequently you aren't at the mercy of a private business owner.

It would probably save you a lot of unnecessary embarrassment or maybe legal prosecution if you checked with the mall administration office before doing any busking there.

The mall owners will own the land in front of the mall and the car park too. If you're not careful they could possibly ban you from the premises.

I wouldn't risk the ban hammer if you like to pick up tail there but it's up to you.

Black Friday is not the day to sit in front of a mall. Haven't you seen those pictures of people trampling each other to get inside and get the best bargains? They're sure not going to care if they step on some young guy who's between them and the best deal in town. They'll be too busy manic-shopping to listen to you anyway.

lol, dude, I'm not worried about being stepped on. I've been in moshpits that have ripped whole legs of my pants off. (that still hasn't happened on black friday and I've been my crew's defensive lineman for years)

also, happy thanksgiving all of you! :D

People have literally been trampled to death on Black Friday!

Anyway, like has been said above, a mall is not a good place to busk with it being private property. You'll probably be turfed before the first chorus.

And playing in the mall isn't really anything exciting ;) Played 2 times in 2 separate malls with the band and everything (the first one was part of a competition, the 2nd one was the sound-guy from first one inviting us to play the next week again, in a different place, and he wanted to record us - it was all arranged with the mall administration as you can guess) but it's not really fulfilling. Rare few people even bother to listen or stop by, not to mention the music from the shops ruining your groove. It is an interesting experience, but that's it ;)

People have also died in pits in similar ways.

I guess I won't do it then, probably would be fun.
