I tried out the les Paul LPJ in "vintage burst". I found the pick ups muddy and no bite.
The guitar felt alright, but I wasn't too sure about the tuners either.

It comes with Gotoh tuners, unless I'm mistaken - those are pretty good.
As for the pickups, they're very PAFfy, but clean, and not super-hot. If you want amp break up, you may need to use a gain boost pedal. But that's how my old Les Paul is too. Tone on 8 and no pedals, and you might think you're playing an acoustic.

I like the pickups in the SGJ, but I don't like the plastic cover they use instead of a backplane bracket. To change to a different pickup, I have to buy and install a backplane bracket - it's just a few bucks and couple of screws, but...
