It looks as if GAS has bit me. I have decided to buy another guitar and I have narrowed it down to 4 choices.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top
Epiphone Nighthawk
Gibson Les Paul LPJ
Fender Cabronita Telecaster

I have played both the Nighthawk and the LPJ, I noodled on an Epi standard (not plus top) before I ran out of time.
I am leaning towards the Nighthawk, but I still want to try the other two guitars.
I have loved the Cabronita since it came out, but I already have 2 Teles (one Fender, one Squier).
The shop has a Black Friday sale on the LPJ for $499 and the Cabronita for $399, but there is limited quantities and I hate fighting crowds when I shop.
I put some money down on the Nighthawk as there was only one in stock, brand new out of the back. I'll head back soon to check out the rest, but in the meantime I get to daydream about what I will be purchasing in the near future!

Well, not knowing your musical tastes and other instruments...awe who am I kidding, I would go with the Cabronita Telecaster all the way!

Enjoy the shopping!

Totally agree. My personal guitar addiction would pull me toward the Fender.

Happy Holidays!!!

I would go for the lpj the epiphones are ok but I would always take a USA gibson over an epiphone.

You get a 490 and a 498 pickups that I used to have in an sg and they sound great. The epiphone pickups for me can never match those.

I have a problem with the cab as I think the squire is so close to the Mexican I would save some cash and go for the squire, especially that one with the bigsby.

Enjoy trying them and I am sure you will love whatever you end up with.

I'd only ever get an LPJ if I had the extra cash to gut and mod it right after, maybe even refinish. I'd get rid of basically everything but the wood and frets. (imo, those are some of the worst guitars Gibson has ever made)

I'd go with an Epiphone Wilshire Pro, even if it's not on your list, because I'm seriously gassing over it right now.

But, off your list, I'd do a shoot out between the Cabronita and the Nighthawk, but would probably end up going with the Cabronita in the end. It's too simple to not sound good.

I tried out a Satin White LPJ and the Nighthawk on a Traynor YCV50B. I own a YCV40WR, and this was the most similar amp I saw that was plugged in.
Between the two, I thought the pick ups on the LPJ sounded muddy, but the Nighthawk was tight, crunchy and had clarity. It sounds like I may have already made up my mind! As much as I'd love to go for that Cabronita, I do have 2 teles (albeit different), so I think I am leaning for something different.
I do not own any Gibsons, and my only Epi is an acoustic. I still am not used to Gibson/Epi necks. I am not sure if its the neck profile or the 12" radius, but I have never bonded with those necks. I've always gone with a Fender style neck.
I put money down on the Nighthawk so I can go back and spend a little more time with it and not worry that someone else may buy it. I'll try a few more guitars when I go back, but I have a feeling I know what I will be coming home with.

The absolute best Les Paul that I ever played was an Epiphone 1960 Les Paul tribute,it blew virtually every Les Paul I ever played out of the water.Just a few days ago I read a review on the Epi 1960 LP Tribute where the reviewer said exactly the same that I did.Another Epi Les Paul well worth trying out would be any with the Pro-Bucker pickups with the coil-tap feature as these pickups sound so much like PAFs that it's uncanny.

You should maybe give Schecter a try as well. The solo and Tempest models are very cool. Especially the custom models.

The plus top has the pro-buckers and the coil tap. I didn't get a chance to try it yet. That will happen on my next visit!

I'll see if they have any in stock. I plan to try a bunch of guitars in my price range when I have more time. I might check out a couple of those PRS SE models as well.

If you are in for Gibson - try the Studio models. Much cheaper than Standards but same or even better quality tone, sustain, etc. They just don't have all that flashy stuff the standards have, hence the drop in price, but all of them are made in USA and GOOD. I own a Gibson Studio LP and have never considered paying the extra $$ for getting a standard. And some of Studios do look lovely as well. Mine is a worn brown, 2 burstbucker pro, alinco V humbuckers in it. That baby sings man :) It costs around 1k $.
