I have been toying around with a Talk Box, I got one on loan and have been experimenting with it. Who on board has one of these and what do you think about them. Recommendations and thoughts.

I made one from a few oddball parts (it included a funnel, a Pignose amp and some clear poly tubing!) and it worked really well; it was a cool effect, but I didn't mount it on my pedalboard and I only rarely use it, since the guy in the band who sang "Rocky Mountain Way" had a stroke and can't sing anymore :-(

I've heard good things about the Banshee II, but I can't recommend it, seeing as I've never tried it...

I have a Heil Talk Box. I love it, but rarely use it. In fact, I haven't used it in years. As soon as I get some PA speakers, and my jam room back once the oldest boy moves out again, I'm gonna hook it up. It takes two amps or an amp head to push it. I think it sounds best with a Marshall, but doesn't really matter what's pushing it, it still sounds good. Just be careful, you have to turn the amp up to about 8 or 9 to get a strong sound out of it to be projected into the microphone.

I have a banshee that I got about 3 years ago and it's great. I play the ubiquitous Rocky Mountain Way but also Eagles Those Shoes and the Cars Let's go and the 2 Peter Frampton classics. Yes I use it a lot but only once a year when I do a re union with my old band from the 70's as a benefit for the Arkansas Alzheimer's association.

Mine works well but it was more expensive than I remember it being (relatively) in the 70's.

I think you can be pretty creative with it and hey, do something not been done before.

Talk boxes are very versatile. I played a gig in Camden Arkansas in 1979 at age 19. Our band got kicked out of the bar where we were playing because we were a rock band and they wanted a country band (go figure, our name was Roxx). We barely started "Ready for Love" and we were humiliated and booted from the stage. When we left for the 100 mile or so trip back to Little Rock, the other guitar player ran out of gas. We used my talk box tube to siphon from my 77 corolla into his 75 gremlin (I'm not making this up). Everytime I played a gig after that, I was gaging and dry heaving. I kept it until sometime in the 80's when I gave up the rock star lifestyle to go to school. So they aren't just for making throaty sounds, they have multiple uses!

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it :) .

Forgive for being a bit naive but I've never used one of these , how exactly do you hook one into a rig :?:

It's an extra speaker in a small enclosure. Guitar to talk box to microphone. The tube transmits the guitar sound into your mouth when the tube is in your mouth. So you mouth the words and the sound of your guitar substitutes for your vocal chords. Pretty slick eh?
