To think I paid $9.50 to see the Rolling Stones in 1975

I guess my $7.50 ticket for The Beatles in '66 was a little overpriced for the time.

Just a little update on the ticket madness here in London today, for your amusement.

After 20,000 seats at the O2 Arena for Monty Python sold out in 43 seconds flat this morning they announced another four dates - well, they would, wouldn't they? And those tickets also sold in less than an hour too. A total of 100,000 seats sold before mid-morning coffee. Gosh.

As mentioned, top price £650 / $1052. Far as I could see the cheapest tickets were £90 / $145. Those seats are so far away and high up the Ticketmaster website warned not to buy them if you have a problem with vertigo. Yet according to the evening news even those trashy tickets are now already changing hands on the grey market for £1500 / $2425.

Good Lord! Some people must be really desperate to see the parrot sketch one last time...

I wonder if they'll do some European and US dates? Be crazy not to, I guess.

Cheers - C

Good lord. Are all of the Pythons that desperate for money (except Graham Chapman, that is)? It would only take one foot down (no pun intended) to say no to the insanity.

Hi Ceri, cool thread. When I was working and had disposable cash I would pay the fare if it was to treat friends to a concert going all out for the limo, champagne and party favors. Now-a-days when a show comes around at a high price I remember that I saw Jimi, Eric, the Doors, Johnny Winter and too many others to list for under $10/ticket. I don't feel so bad then about missing over rated over paid under talented quasi-artists with dollar signs in their eyes. rant over

Last week when they publicly announced this gig they were all giggling heartily at the thought of filling an arena, even for a single night. Terry Jones laughed that he was "looking forward to making lots of money."

So happens, till his marriage broke up recently Terry Jones lived two streets away from me. I've met him twice at local events. I also met Michael Palin once and had a nice chat for about 10 minutes. I found them entirely friendly, regular guys. I don't begrudge them the money in the slightest.

But I definitely don't feel like making a donation...

Cheers - C

Rollie, let's skip the gig and stay in the limo with the friends and drink! Better fun all round. :D

Cleese has said many times he needs to pull in over a $1m a year just for alimonies. He can't afford to retire.

Seeing an international act for less than $100 isn't happening. Here in Aus the Foo Fighters was $130 for good seats, and U2 360 was $130, but that was for unbelievable seats. Although 360 was designed for maximum capacity to keep prices low (some were only $40).

But Springsteen wants $220 for average seats at our local 5000 seater. Pass, Boss...

So $440 if going with the missus. That's more than I paid for my latest guitar (today!).
Yeah, Little Steven and Bruce can surely play without me attending. :D

Most I've paid: $100 for tickets to a Yes (ABWHS) concert after Ticketmaster doubled the prices with their "convenience charges". Convenient for them. Not for me.
Best value: $21 for Deep Purple with Europe and Status Quo as warm-up bands.

At around $75 in today's money, it probably was. There was arguably less such disposable income for teens in the 60s, so that ticket price is probably a fair comparison to (excessive) costs today.

Joe Bonamassa wants 240.00 for a floor seat for his Austin Texas show this Saturday. That's WAY to rich for me, unless I get dinner and a guitar lesson, I aint paying that much to see anyone. I wonder how much of that 240.00 he actually gets.
