The past few days my dear other half has been saying how tired she was of seeing the "Wreck" room and music room in such disarray and this afternoon she started gutting out the furnace room and a large storage area in the back of the basement. She wants me to gut out my workbench and get all the tools etc. out of the way so that can be used to poke all the stuff from the other 2 rooms. She intends to rearrange everything and haul up the carpet and get cushion floor or some other kind of vinyl floor covering because the old carpet is getting a dank, musty smell after being there for well over 20 years. We are going to use some area rugs so that there will be at least some sound deadening in the room.

What was the music room for 20 years will now become a library because I have literally thousands of books on every subject imaginable plus well over 100 National Geographic hard cover books and also magazines-mostly dealing with music or cars. The whole room will be shelves from floor to ceiling and that will leave me with a music room that will be about 14 X 18 and all that will be going there will be the stereo and albums etc.,,all my musical gear and bookcases holding all my music books and magazines.

Blinkers has kindly offered to lend a helping hand but that may involve me leaving him my Guild S-100-NB in my will...lol.Even with lots of help this could take months because of the enormous number of books and other reading material. Since my mother became a librarian after giving up her teaching career,I've become a stickler for putting books, albums,Cds etc. in proper alphabetical or chronological order so this is going to be a difficult and often daunting task,to say the least but eventually I'll finally have enough room to have all my gear in one place and still have room for a few of the guys to come over for a jam and that's what's going to make all the work worthwhile.

Sounds like a good plan!

I'm a big fan of order. Sounds like a great (if ominous) plan to me.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Sounds like a cool thing to do. Have you thought any about getting rid of some of the stuff? Sometimes it's good to strip things down a bit. Could always unload some things on Craigs etc...
I've found that it's often good to get rid of things that accumulate over time... Have no "True" value to them anymore. Ask myself "do I REALLY need to hold on to this?"... "I haven't looked at this book(s)... or Magazine(s) since forever ago... do I REALLY need to keep this around?"... Just a thought.
Can be beneficial to your mental health to rid yourself of the clutter that comes with having things around that you don't use or have no realistic need for anymore.
Either way, all the best with you project.

You can't simply throw books out....not if you're a book person. I am. Like my mom always said "books are friends" I almost cried when my stephen king collection took on mold and had to be disposed of. the basement of our last house where I had a ton of things stored took on a little water. Nothing got wet, but the mold crept in without us knowing it. when we moved and started going through things I found it.... about 50 books ruined. so sad.

Feel free to post some pics!

My cat urinated all over our rec room. It is the only part of the house with carpet. So now my priorities have changed from making a jam room . .. to ripping out the carpet and disposing it.

Either way . . . I wish you the best of luck re-doing your room!

After being raised by two ex-schoolteachers-one of them a librarian also- I have had the value of books drilled into just about since conception,so getting rid of any books-even to sell them-is out of the question.I have too much rare and vintage gear of all types to ever consider selling any of it whatsoever.I also have some very rare vintage vinyl such as original Little Richard 45s on Regent Records, which apparently was his label before he really hit the big time,I also have several Capitol Beatles albums and 45s with the original liner lyric sheets photos etc. that are in absolute mint condition. That's the problem with being such a compulsive collector-or pack rat as the Missus calls me-I can't bring myself to part with anything related to music or books and magazines.I have Guitar Player magc dating back to the mid 70s with very few issues missing, the same goes for Guitar World from its first issue until it got sidetracked to being more or less head-banger/metal mag. Being a hopeless car freak I also have Car & Driver,Road & Track,Motor Trend, Collector Car etc. mags dating back to the early 70s.None of this stuff can be gotten rid of either. I figure that maybe six more 5-6 shelf book cases will do after I get all 9 current cases filled up.

Guitslinger, I'm in the same boat when it comes to holding on to stuff. Only thing is the wifey wants us to have a garage sale and is prodding me to go through things. I'm actually supposed to be "going through something" right now as we speak. :(

I best get to work and look like I'm thinking of getting rid of something...
