Who still listens and buys Vinyl? At home I listen to Vinyl a lot, always enjoy the sound of when I was younger. It amazes me how many of my Sons friends have never listened to an album. I still have albums from back in the sixties and still buy them to this day.

I dumped most of my LP's the moment that CD's became the more prolific format. The only vinyl I kept were those recordings where no disc is available, eg: The Jerry Hahn Brotherhood.

Ever try playin' a record in a moving car?

Could not tell you when I last listened to a cd in any of me vehicles mostly Sirius or Ipod. My one turntable has a usb port that I can run thru the Mac even.

I still play vinyl. I have a couple stereo systems with turntables. I don't buy any new vinyl (the prices are crazy), but I do pick up used LPs that fill holes in my collection.

Prices can be crazy orvilleowner but I get many from amazon at good price.

I still use a Quadrophonic reel to reel at home sometimes recording myself.

I stored my LP's in a carton. I was amazed at how fast CD's kicked LP's though.

Modern CD's suffer from hyper compression causing over loudness since the mid 90's just listen to and early cd then a modern version and you can tell the difference. Audiophiles have been saying this for years.
Analog sounds much warmer and ambient filling a room with sound. You need a good system though for listening but you don't get that over compression and loudness pushing peaks and causing distortion.

Thats the debate over analog and the mastering of digital and creating untrue loudness levels that CD's suffer from. Many know no different because thats all they ever had to listen to and they will swear by it. Music from the 60's and 70's was made to sound good in analog at the time and when remaster to modern CD it sounds different from what it was intended.

Hey I bought that same one here a couple months ago and I got 2 Ted Nugent LPs
I want to get a Beatles LP too, I also really need a KISS one.
I did the same as Arjay though I sold all my LPs in the mid 80s and went CD.
I have every CD by everyone I like, I also download from ITunes Amazon so I have a hard drive full.
Im a big 70s head.

Yes, but unfortunately it is next to impossible to buy a good stereo system anymore, unless you go all out on audiophile equipment where you pay thousands extra for design and snake oil. You can still buy a Tecnhics turntable, but that's because of DJs, not because of stereo listeners. Thus the only choice now are elastic belt driven ones suitable for scratching.
At least you can get one. But once you get it, what do you hook it up to?
Try finding a class A or even AB stereo amp. Or a pre-amp with a RIAA stage. Don't even bother looking for a MM/MC switch...

If you want a good stereo system these days, the pawn broker is your best bet, because what's being sold at the dealers is utter crap.

I still have all of my vinyl from the 60's and 70's and a pretty good stereo to play them on with my original JBL 4311 studio monitors that I bought in the 70's. I started to transfer all of my vinyl to cd with the intent of selling the albums but I enjoyed listening to them so much that I abandoned that plan and I just figure I'll pass them along to my daughter, some day far in the future, I hope. Luckily she has wide musical tastes and will enjoy them as I do. My sister has a bunch of 78's from the 50's!

I still buy vinyl but not the new releases that cost more than what you'd pay for a decent box set of CDs.I buy my vinyl these days at the local thrift stores and the only independent record dealer in the province-Fred's Records.I have bought some pretty rare vinyl in the thrift stores and some were the Special Editions that the record companies only made available to radio stations such as the 4 disc Mike Oldfield compilation that's a radio station only release or my copy of Todd Rundgren's "Runt" which has the same connotation.Fred's has a very eclectic variety of vinyl at very fair prices, except of course it's an original unopened first pressing of the Parlophone recording of "Meet The Beatles" or the like.I still go down to the "wreck" room every now and then and play some of my old albums and 45s.

Like Strings 10927 and Donnycraven I have the same system that's identical but is Memorex which leads me to believe that they are made in the same factory and just have different faceplate logos on them.I'm sure that a lot of my more obscure vinyl will never be committed to CD format so I'm glad that I can put all of this obscure vinyl on CDs and listen to it when I'm driving.Putting these old rarities on CDs also saves them from extra wear and tear so they'll still be in good shape when I depart this mortal coil and leave them to my daughters and/or nephews.

Right on!

I still have the JBL L100A's as my main home-theater system that I bought back in 1972. I added a Cerwin-Vega powered subwoofer to the mix about fifteen years ago. The 15-inch sub with its own 125-watt amp really adds realism to any recording but especially so with DVD films. The air-assault sequence in "Apocalypse Now" puts those Loaches and Hueys right in my living room. And the extended LP version of Rare Earth's "Get Ready" rattles the plates in my wife's china hutch during the bass and drum solos (I love it but she's less-than-thrilled).
