I'm not looking forward to Monday one little bit,I have to go and have a stress test done by my cardiologist. He wants to find out if the extreme fatigue and weakness that I experience after only moderate exertion is due to the Atrial Fibrillation.I got a feeling that he's going to really push me until it triggers one of these "spells".A few years ago one of my best buddies who was just 3 months younger than me,had a particularly intensive stress test and the next day when he got up from his chair to get his supper,he collapsed and died instantly. He apparently had some kind of clot or blockage in one of his cardiac arteries and it suddenly let go and got into his heart causing him to die instantly. The doctors said that they couldn't have saved him if he had already been in the ICU. Ever since this happened to my buddy I have had a dread of stress tests.

My best friend and one of the most gifted guitarists I've ever shared a stage with had high blood pressure that was being successfully controlled by drugs prescribed by his cardiologist. Four years ago next month he underwent a cardiac stress test at 2 PM on a Thursday afternoon. At 0400 the next day he died in his sleep from a ruptured aortic aneurysm that neither an EKG nor an angiogram had revealed.

Be cautious!

Arjay

Those were some scary stories.

In 2008 I had a chemical heart stress test before my aortic stent was implanted. Felt just like my heart attack in 1992.

Hoping your test goes well and I'll add you to my prayers.

Jerry

I'm sure you'll be fine. It's a normal everyday sort of test but there will always be exceptions.

In the worst case scenario: Your gear will be well looked after :D

Personally, feel these types of tests are complete BS.
It's already a given that there is an issue. If you're having bad feelings about about... DON"T take the test. Seek an alternative. No need to needlessly put YOUR life on the line for a friggin' stress test. Not trying to discourage... If you feel it's in YOUR best interest to take the test... go for it.
All the Best w/ what you decide.

A stress test is an important measurement and is not dangerous. It is simple and takes very little time. You walk a treadmill at various speeds for various periods of time and measurements are taken. Every test is diferent depending on the patient and your are not pushed to the limit of your endurance.

This is something you should do.

Best of luck to you.

Depending on the test it can also include ingesting or injecting radioactive substances. I collapsed on the treadmill after being injected, on fire from the top of my head to my butt, and it took me a full day to recover.
Let's just say that I won't subject myself to that again. I'd rather get a surprise heart attack when that time comes - I have to die some way, and it doesn't appear to be the worst way to go.

Sounds like you were hypersensitive to one of the components of the isotope. Things like this are unpredictable and certainly without a former history. Similarly for the contrast media used in studies of kidney and bladder which most would not think twice about. You'd be surprised at the circumstances under which some women learn they are allergic to latex. Personally, I've undergone many exercise stress tests, some back to back with echocardiograms, radioisotope studies, angiography, stent placement and electrophysiological study in these past 17 years, all without complication. The tragic events cited in previous posts cannot empirically be attributed to the physiological studies as proximate cause. They very well might have occurred notwithstanding.
