I believe the closest to 'correct guitar posture' is supposed to be way up high like that. I used to sling it right around the middle, now it's a little on the low side, but not extremely low. It just feels right there.

I think I put mine the same place George did. When I sit and play my strap falls off my shoulder and when I stand the git does on drop much

It definitely seems to be more fashionable at the moment to wear guitars really high to be fair.

I don't like it to be easy. I either have it really high or really low.

Krist Novoselic is a low-slinger on bass guitar which works for me too when playing bass guitar. Six string guitars I wear a bit higher for playing comfort and helps me to see what I am doing when playing. I'm a little more comfortable/confident playing bass guitar so don't look at my hand positions as much.

I have always played the guitar with the strap adjusted to where I get the optimum comfort for my back and my hands which would be about mid torso or with the bottom of the guitar in front of my belt.I saw an old video of the Stones a couple of nights ago and Keef had the guitar almost slung to his knees,it looked to me that he was doing more posing than playing by just sling the guitar around giving it a couple of strums every few bars while Woody did most of the guitar work.I can't see how anyone could play comfortably with the guitar at below crotch level.Jimmy Page is another low-slinger.

This is where I typically have mine.

That's a nice comfortable spot for me. I can still play with my thumb in the middle of the back of the neck at that height.

Image

I think the higher I place it, the more I want to play higher on the neck. I feel like it hurts more to play chords in the lower portion of the neck if I place the guitar higher on my body. You have to extend your fret arm outward more to reach them. I don't have much of a reach and my fingers aren't very long.

If I put the guitar where the pictures show, I can pull the neck closer to my body with my fret hand at about shoulder length when playing the lower frets by slightly tilting my guitar. If I do that with the guitar strapped high, my fret hand is more like around forehead height.

I'd think it depends on a few physical factors, like how long your arms are and how big your belly (or in extreme cases, breasts) are.
Also non-physical, like how much you angle the neck, whether you mainly play high up on the neck, and how and where you pick.
Then there's the guitar itself - they have different scales, and different fastening methods.

Personally, I think I hang it slightly lower than average, and more to the right. It gives my long left arm easier access, I feel. What it looks like, I don't care. I'll never get a job as front man or eye candy anyhow.
But I'm sure some sling their axe based on how it looks, or how famous people sling theirs.

I always keep my guitars slung a little higher, roughly the same height the guitar would be if I were sitting down. I used to keep it lower but found I couldn't play as well and the wrist on my fretting hand would hurt more.

Quite a few of the guitarists of the British Invasion period played their guitars slung high like John and George did such as Gerry Marsden of Gerry and the Pacemakers,Derek Leckenby and Keith Hopwood of Herman's Hermits and Lenny Davidson of the Dave Clark Five and several more for sure that I can't think of for the time being.I can't see how anyone could really play comfortably with their guitars so high that you can't see their Adam's apple, especially when playing barre chords.I've tried doing it just to see what it's like but I could hardly make a chord with the guitar up so high.

I sling mine a little lower than average, I have long arms and fingers.

I do however have to learn 2 ways of playing a song, as I practice at home sitting down which is way different to playing it live standing up. I do feel as I get older the guitar is getting strung higher.

I wear mine slightly lower than where it would be if I was sitting--it's about comfort and ease of playing, I don't care about it looking like somebody else's idea of "cool."
