I'm tired of cool-guy pressure to sling the guitar way too low to play anything but power chords.

True or false: as a matter of biophysics (the placement of a human's arms and fingers in relation to his head and body), a guitarist simply must sling his guitar pretty darned high (as in, same height as if he were sitting down) if he intends to cleanly play full chords that involve 4 to 6 strings and actually wants everything to ring out cleanly.

My answer is "true." Who's with me? I'm just saying no to cool-guy punk cred ridiculous low slinging.

Well I play standing up with it a bit lower than sitting level, and can play chords properly with any number of strings. Depends how you define high.

I adjust all of my straps so that the guitar is the same height standing or sitting. I'm trying to play more lead with my thumb behind the neck rather than over the top, in order to give my pinky a better angle and a little more power. Screw looking cool. I'd rather sound good.

I have always worn my guitar a little bit higher. I can't play properly when the guitar is slung low, with my arm all stretched out. It cramps my hand too.

Yeah it is simply a matter of physics that if one wants to play a chord with it slung at waist level, one must bend (supate?) the wrist at a 90 degree angle to avoid muting the thinner strings. Or, if one angles the neck up, at least in my case, it messes up my picking as it's not the angle I'm used to when sitting.

I don't have it high that just don't feel right but I don't like it low either. I like just at my waist and have no problem making full cords.

Actually, the way I have the strap adjusted, the guitar just rests on my thigh when sitting with no slack to the strap. When I stand it doesn't actually look real high, just not low slung.

a couple of players come to mind ...

I believe the closest to 'correct guitar posture' is supposed to be way up high like that. I used to sling it right around the middle, now it's a little on the low side, but not extremely low. It just feels right there.

Mine is right about at John Lennon's guitar height in that picture. I find it the most comfortable position to play in. No stress or strain, backache nor pain after hours of playing.

And when your comfortable you can play your best.

Also sling it at the same height as sitting (not super high or super low). Most folks (including myself) practice sitting down. Want the guitar the same height when standing.
And yes, it looks cool when standing and performing ;)

Sonny Landreth wear his guitar fairly high , the first thing I noticed about him is his playing , the second is how high his guitar is on his torso.
