Hey all!

Yesterday I was in a nearby music store, having a look round(surpressing GAS) and after playing a couple of really nice axes i noticed out the corner of my eye, one of the workers bringing out an amp from the back. Twas a little super champ xd. He said it was a trade-in and was a good deal which i agreed ,$99cdn... $250 originally i think. I already own 2 small 15w amps that i use at home and a large one that rarely gets used but is there for when I need to remove windows...hehe, also an acoustisonic jr. So, I went home.............. :? :| .... :?:
Does anybody have any expierience with these amps?
Was i a fool and should go back and get it
I dunnno....
My gf just goes

You're only a fool if you buy something sight unseen or untried and then hate it once you get to know it. I've done that and believe me, I felt like a fool. Honestly, if it didn't move you enough to buy it at the store then chances are good you made the best choice coming home without it. GAS always makes something look better at the store. That's how insidious GAS is. You gotta have it and nothing else will do but then it turns out to be not as satisfying as you expected and now you gotta have something else. It's a vicious cycle. Don't worry. Another deal will come along.

Getting kinda personal now, this malady strikes us all but it is particularly harmful to those who do not buy high end gear. I was once where you are now, drooling over some $99 item. Actually an endless string of $99 items. If you can get 25 $99 amps for the price of one good $2,500 amp it's easier for you to get sucked into spending the whole $2500 over the course of time and never once feel that permanent satisfaction that comes with owning a great amp. So you spend the same amount but get none of the satisfaction.

My two cents.

+1 !

Add to this I don't care for Modelling Amps, and I would NEVER buy a used Solid State Amp (I realize the power section on the Champ is tube, the rest is SS).

I did this once - Princeton Chorus and luckily for me it works fine... I just don't like the Tone, so I never play it.

cheers! :D

I have satisfaction as you put it. I buy high end gear, but thanks for the advice.
I actually like to record with a smaller amp applcation, thus the other 2 15w amps was simply wondering if anyone had good or bad expierences with this particular amp. Variety ..you know whad i mean  no offence

I recently purchased one of the Super Champ XD Head and Cabs. I am still in the process of trying to sort out the sounds and figure out how to tweak the presets using the Fender Fuse software which I finally downloaded yesterday. I am a fan of the low wattage amps and find that they will do about any thing the larger ones will do by miking the cabinet. The XD is chock full of the squeaky clean Fender sounds and I think it would have been really nice if it included a distortion or fuzz pedal in the software stompboxes. I've not had mine long enough to really give it a fare evaluation but I believe for the money you probably won't go wrong with one at that price. I plan to use one of the voices (probably the Super Sonic) and plug a Blues Driver into the front end and see if that won't produce the sounds I like. I also have a Mesa Boogie 5-25 that I dearly love when used at the 5 Watt Class A setting but you are looking at a big price difference between the two. :? Give the Super Champ a try, you're not going to lose any money at that price. 8)

Thanks Bender!!

Thats excactly the type of feedback i was after. Definately not a newb when it comes to buying high end gear...already have an big expensive amp that blow the doors off the place(if thats what your after). You just don't get as much of a review of small amps other than usual, great for a practice amp,or bought it cuz it was cheaper and will get a better one when i have the money. So, thanks. Hopefully it doesn't get scooped b4 i get a chance to go back.

I had one for awhile. I didn't like the modeling channel but the clean channel was nice. They are not bad for the money. If I came across one for 99 buck I would probely buy it. You can put it in a bigger cab with a 12 in speaker and then it's much better. There some company's that make bigger cabs for them.

I have a few 15W amps and several are solid state, although I have never played one of that model Champ,I have seen favourable comments on this forum and others. As for buying used SS amps,I have bought a few of them and hybrids too and haven't had a hitch of trouble with any of them. For the price that they're asking I'd certainly go for that amp.Last year I bought a brand new Vox Mini 3 for under $100 and it was one of the best buys that I've ever made.It has about a dozen amp models that are surprisingly accurate plus a mic channel, several great modulation effects as well as a great reverb/delay section. If you want a cheap but surprisingly good modeling amp a new Mini 3 would be a much better buy than the used Champ but then again it's only about 5 or 10W.

I own a Super Champ X2, which is the current MIM model. Best $350 I'd spent in a while.
Mine is the combo version.

As someone else posted, the clean channel is excellent! It handles pedals beautifully, too. The built in fx are quite nice, but as already noted, there's no dirt options. My only beef is that you can only control level and tap tempo, depth and feedback control would be a great improvement. Be that as it may, I have analog delay and chorus pedals, and the amp takes them just fine. The reverbs are superb. ( room, hall, and spring)

I like the models on ch2. They aren't quite as useful if you want to use your own post gain effects, but you still have the option of using the built in ones. Not to mention Fuse.

My faves are the same as on my Mustang: Bassman; Brit 60's; Brit 70's. I also love the Tweed Deluxe and Jazzmaster cleans. Even with a 10" speaker, and open back I can get some serious, punchy low end growl out of it! ( particularly using the AC or Plexi models with the gain up, and a distortion pedal going in front.)

Check out the Super Champ forum for speaker upgrade ideas. A lot of the guys rave about the difference an Eminence speaker adds, particularly the hemp cone and alnico ones. Also, there's an 8 ohm speaker out, so you can connect any 8 ohm cab up to it for some extra beef for live settings. Mine is still under warranty, so I'm not messing with the speaker- yet. I am perfectly happy with the Fender Special Design that's in it- it ain't junk!

I, also, have a vulnerability to amp GAS. I'm perfectly happy with the ones I have, but darn if my head doesn't get turned by something else every so often...

Amp GAS is incurable.

And if you're feeling like the Lone Ranger, feel free to call me "Tonto".

If I stumbled across that amp for $99 , I'd be loading it in my car and leaving with it but I've got one of em already and paid $330 for it in 2010 when the Canadian dollar was still in the toilet. My favourite channel is the clean channel , there are a few voices in the other channel that I actually use , several of the other voices don't do anything for me. There are some useable effects that are foot switchable if a fella goes and buys the optional two button footswitch , ya I bought that too , later on . Without the footswitch you gotta bend over and twist dials till you find the desired effect , with the switch you pre-select the effect and click the foot switch when the desired effect is needed . I bought the switch as a convenience feature. Two buttons get you two channels and your choice of two pre selected effects . I like the amp , however , I do have other amps around here that see more use than that one. I'm OK with hanging on to it and it is pleasing to the ear once you find the settings you like . It will probably last me a long time , it see's such little play . I find it to be nice to have around for my friends to use it when we jam at my place so It is handy , as a guest amp.
