I've recently saw a Japanese band's video where the vocalist used a guitar similar to a Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster (he has two of the same model in different colors), but it seems to me that it's some kind of a replica. I couldn't make out what is written on the guitar's headstock - although I'm sure it doesn't say Fender.

Anybody have an idea what kind of guitar is this? Who makes it? (If it's not entirely custom made.) I did write an email to the band's contact address (in Japanese and English), but they didn't answer ...

Here are some links to their videos. The first one is probably the "best", the headstock can be seen around 60 seconds into the video.

(I couldn't post more more than 2 links, so I just pasted the video IDs from the tail of the URLs.)

It's not a Fender, that's all I can tell.

Could be an Asian knockoff or a partscaster of the player's making.

I had a look through the Fender Japan site, nothing matches that guitar ... although there is the usual array of slightly different and quirky models and finishes that aren't seen outside Japan. Lots of Gun Metal Blue finishes and that can't be a bad thing.

An image search for the band name turns up this better shot, it's clearly not a Fender instrument, can't make out the manufacturer's name on it though.

I did a bit of sniffing around, couldn't find anything. I haven't see it in my daily searches of Japanese guitar websites either.

I've downloaded one of the band's live performances. The headstock of his guitar can be seen a bit better in the video, but I still can't figure out what's written on it. I've uploaded some pictures that I've ripped from the video here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/jsse6f, maybe someone else can figure it out.

I've also "tweeted" the guitarist, but he didn't notice my question as of yet ... although he tweets regularly. Maybe I'll try their Facebook page (if they have one), or tweet him some more.

I haven't seen anything that fits the guitar's description in any of my offbeat guitar books and my old peepers are too weak to pick out the name on the headstock.I'm guessing that it may be one that he had made for himself-the logo didn't look at all familiar to me. It's a great song though-even though I didn't understand one word of it,the guitar whatever it is has a real chimey tone to it and it certainly must be an upmarket model or a handmade one.I guess that Blinkers must have checked out the Guitars Japan site already.

The guitarist 川谷絵音 (Kawatani Enon, Kawatani being his last name) replied to my second tweet and it seems the guitar is custom made and it's called サイケデリズム (Psychederhythm). (I thought I'd mention his name, because he was nice enough to answer.)

The brand has a basic website here: http://www.psychederhythm.com, it's Japanese only. I couldn't find any links or navigational stuff on the main page, but Google came up with this result: http://www.psychederhythm.com/1-8.htm (I'm using Firefox and I had to change the page's character encoding to Shift JIS for it display properly in Japanese). I didn't read the stuff that's on the website yet (my Japanese isn't too hot unfortunately), but there are pictures on the guitars for sale. Prices vary, but generally it's around $2000.

I like the Psychomasters very much, like this one for example: http://www.psychederhythm.com/1-8_111213pmcm.htm. The ones that have their bridges "more towards the bridge pickup" / without the floating tremolo are really nice (if these descriptions made any sense at all - I don't like tremolos so I'm not sure what's it called, sorry about that). The instruments are beautiful that's for sure, I hope I can get my hands on one of these in the future.

I was on the right track after all, thinking that it was a handmade custom model, thanks for posting the info and the links Robert,I'll have to look them up and also see if they are available through http://www.guitarsjapan.com/ I really loved the tone that the lead singer got from his guitar.Cheers.

It not custom made, it appears to be the model Psychomaste Limited

That would make a nice Fender Jazzmaster.
