Try rolling back your volume and lowering the gain on your amp. The American Standard has Fat '50s pickups so you should get an awesome clean sound.

These guitars were not designed to play dirty. The fault dear Brutus, is not in our guitars, but in our amps. Most audition videos feature guitars which are over EQ'd because THAT's what most players are shooting for these days. The days of Buddy Merrill and Neil Levang playing their Fender guitars in Lawrence Welk's band are over.

Are you referring to the hum from positions one, three, and five, or overdriven tones coming from an amp?

What year is your Am Std?

The short answer is EQ.

Perhaps a jazz type amp (like a Roland or Polytone,) or a bass amp with a little EQ tweaking? I've played my guitar through one of my bass amps on occasion, and I'd say that was pretty clean, but you have to twiddle some knobs to tone down the bass frequencies a bit. If you mean clean as in a jazz kind of sound, that is.

Holy Crap Doc...A Lawrence Welk Band reference? If the OP is younger than 50 he has probably never heard of Buddy and Neil!

With your BJr, turn the Volume to 1, turn the Master to 12, then bring the Volume up to your desired listening level. Set like this, you should get a clean sound up to about 3 on the Volume.

For your other thread when you want "lots of distortion", turn the Master to 1, turn the volume to 12, then bring the Master up to your desired listening level. Set like this, you should get more distortion as you increase the Master.

turn your amp on its back, then very carefully pour ammonia and bleach into your speaker.

They're all on YouTube for the asking. So is the young James Burton, but he's not playing live. Better than we had.

OK Shimmi, bring me up to speed. Where does the amp come in? There's no mention of it on this thread.
