ok, so after the last topic, i've been looking into this subject extensively (does the wood and materials you use have any effect on the sound of your guitar, and does the quality of the wood make it have nicer tone like we're led to believe).

and my conclusion is no :( not in the slightest!

i started looking at a les paul with a burstbucker 2 and 3 in it. and a gibson sg with a burstbucker 2 and 3 in it. both had the same bridge and both used d'darrio strings.

they are, without a doubt. 100% identical.. how is that possible?

i also played other guitars. an ESP KH2 with an emg81 in the bridge, and a gibson epiphone piece of junk that had an 81 stuck in the bridge aswell. both using different bridges. and they sounded identical also.

so it's the pickups, the stringsm the bridge, the nut. thats it! im convinced now :*(

im not trying to start an argument, but i've just recently gotten back into guitars properly and sarted to love them again. and i wanted to add another great guitar to my collection, but as i was going to lay down up to 2200 euro's on it, i wanted to know i was buying something real, and not a myth etc.

if thats the case, why do people buy SG's for rock and les paul's for blue's etc, if they're identical, and just look different (proving the hardware is the same).

thanks guys

In that case, just buy a Jay Turser or a Cort and stick a couple of Burstbuckers in it.

lol.
Well not that bad (quality wise). but i mean if i picked up a mid range Epiphone that was well made, with a nice feeling neck and chambered lightweight body for about 600 dollars. i think that would do me with the burstbuckers in it, or maybe the 57 classic's. im certain it would sound and maybe even feel identical.
What do you think yourself? do you think all the parts make a difference?

Like i always thought a les paul was that big, chunky and heavy to get that big chunky sound. like it Had to be that size, otherwise the sound would be too thin. ?

im actually looking at buying a second hand les paul atm, the guy wants 1450-1600 for it.. but im thinking about this other alternative man... seriously!

No offense but everything sounds the same to the tone deaf. Funny I have four Strats and they all sound different to me.

Well you pay for more than just sound. Playability for one it's gotta be comfortable, it's also gotta stay in tune for more than a song.

I'm not sure that's a priority for a shoe-gazer playing a "bedroom gig".

What you think about the similarities is really what matters. Trying to debate the subject with a bunch of guys that walk around all day and night thinkin' about guitar tones is a losing game, anyhow. Maybe your thoughts on the matter mean you should be thinking more about songs...

can you have a look at this video, and tell me what you think? this is really the one that made it clear for me, along with my own experiemnts.

see when he puts the 2 LP's together, it doesn't do anything

i just noticed something aswell on a guitar here with really big inlays. if the fingerboard makes a big difference to the sound, how come when you are touching above an inlay which is a different material it doesn't make a difference?

Is this the fourth or the fifth thread you start about this? Is it really necessary to beat the dead horse that much? We got what you think the first time. And second.. And third...
