I kinda want an SG some day. I want one of the old funky models from the 70s. 70s/80s guitars are my favorites for some reason. I want a hardtail Maui Blue 70s Stratocaster if such a thing exists. I want a late 70s Gibson "The SG", I want an early 80s Sonex 180 Custom, preferrably white with black pickguard.

I just was looking at guitars and these were ones that would suit my needs and playing styles, and also my personal taste lol. I've started writing better riffs and playing some ok stuff, much more controlled and precise. These are the guitars that would voice my sound really well, complementing the enormous amount of tones I get from my Guild.

Now, can someone help me with accurate price estimates so I know what to save up? (probably rounded up as well, to leave room in case of negotiations)

I'd much appreciate it.

Just save man. A lot. By the time you have some cash your tastes may have changed.

I've actually loved Maui Blue for like 2 years now. So I'm sure on that.

I thought you were just going to say ALL OF THEM. I used to think like that, but I finally quit at 70 and yes, one of them is an SG and one of them is a Gibson authorized Baldwin SG, but neither of them is blue.

SG's are awesome. Just keep in mind, there are a couple of design flaws. The 'neck dive' issue can be fixed several ways. But if you break the headstock off .... well lets just say, be careful with it if you get one. Those little issues aside, SG's are great players, pretty versatile, and look great on stage (IMO).

I would not rule out an Epiphone G-400 - these are a great value. Not too many options for colors though.

$349.00

A 70's styled Gibson SG will run you around $1,100.

I don't want one of those sleek black SGs. Do they have these in brown with a brown headstock?

I want one of those ugly brown 70s ones. I think they're just funky and cool, but a totally different kind

After I get a sunburst Gibson ES-335, my GAS will be done forever, as far as guitars. I swear. That and my 2 American strats (one w/ humbuckers) and American standard tele will be enough.

After that I will simply work on my playing and my only GAS might be for a couple of pedals and, eventually, the right amp for what I need if I'm gigging, such as a Twin Reverb.

By the way, I notice that none of the 335s on ebay get ANY bids. Anyone know why that is? A dangerous guitar to buy used because a fair percentage are lemons, or what?

Brown 'Worn' Epiphone G-400, even cheaper, but not a brown headstock:

The brown "worn" Gibson SG's(and Epi's) might be the best looking one's out there.

I still want a Fender Precision...mainly because other bass brands don't really sound like basses to me. I'll have some bills paid off in a couple few months, might have to find an older American Standard. I have a very high end bass at the moment..that's really a work of art. I don't want to always play on such a bass. I want to be the work of art. Plus..the guy that sold me the thing was an unforgivable jerk to my parents...and I was too screwed up to realize it at the time. As the haze wears off, the truth comes back.

Actually... nothing compares to what I have. That probably ruins your day..being the type of person you are. That should keep ya busy for a while. Just take a deep breath..keep speaking in a calm, but ready to blow at any moment manner, and remember how important you really are.

i almost got a Gibson SG last weekend. It was in local craigs for $850... i was gassing pretty bad for it. Then i went to the local Guitar Center and played one, then played a Strat and they just didn't compare. Long story short i passed on the SG and will just keep saving. I have a MIM strat and plenty of other guitars, i wheel and deal a lot only keeping a few of my favorites. Nothing against the SG at all, i know they are great guitars. Just not for me right now.

I'm halfway tempted to get a Gibson SGJ - at $500, it seems like a lot of guitar for the money, and the chocolate brown ones are darn pretty.

But then again, I surely have more guitars than hands to play them with.
