I saw a comment on youtube about the Highway one series!
According to a rumour the fender highway one series will be discontinued this year (2008).
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't want the HWY 1 series to be discontinued because I want to buy a HWY 1 strat.

never heard about it
The New American Standard replaces the American Standard this year.
Alternative in the midprice section the Classic Player 60's designed from the custom shop build in Mexico

Fender promoted the Highway One heavily in 2006-2007. It would seem strange to drop it so soon, but I did get a big discount on mine. Probably 1/2 off list brand new was what I paid at a Guitar Center that wanted to move it. I've wondered how long such great deals can stay around.

If I remember someone started a similar thread last week.

I have not heard anything on this.

I said this because I don't know if you noticed but the Daphne blue color on the HWY 1 series is no longer available.
Why?

I haven't heard about that, but that wouldn't surprise me. They made that series, obviously, for people that want an American but want it cheaper. So, they made a cheaper one, which I don't think was a huge hit. People either want an American, or a good MIM (or Korean). They don't want to pay higher-than-MIM prices for a sub-American MIA.

Fender is starting to the the Martin and Marshall thing, making too many products and too many goofy lines. They should just stick to the simple ones and leave all the "in-between" crap alone.

When is this supposed to happen? I just ordered mine, and I'm really hoping that it won't affect me... :? :? :?

The reason Fender offers so many different lines is to offer each musician the highest quality guitar for their budget.

There is a $400.00 difference between the American Standard (list is $1399.00) and the Highway One (list is $999.00). Both are made in the U.S.A.

With the exception of the Classic, Deluxe, & Special Edition guitars, (all these models are era or special makes) the next list price for a Standard Mexican guitar is $599.00.

It is wise to fill the gaps, otherwise a competitor will (with a copy).

I hope they're not discontinuing it!! I wanted to get a Highway One Tele next year, but either i'll need to move that timeline up a bit (which I wouldn't terribly mind :D ) or i'll need to settle for a MIM, or pay the extra $$$ for the MIA...

But what I've heard was just a rumour.
I want to be completely sure.

I thought I heard from a Fender rep on another forum that this was only a rumor, and there is no truth to it at all.

Of course, then again, it would not surprise me if they tweak the Highway Ones a bit, like they did with the American Standards. When the new American stuff came out, you could find deals on the "old" American stuff. So perhaps the current HWY1 series is going away for a new, improved(?) HWY1 series, which would mean that yes, the HWY1 series is discontinued, but only to make way for HWY2s or whatever the new variation on the name of the HWY series may be.

There's a new thread idea: come up with a name for the new HWY 1 series of guitars.

My idea is: the Fender American Faded Series.
the Fender American Faded Stratocaster, the Fender American Faded Telecaster, the Fender American Faded Stratocaster HSS, ...
