SALUTE!

Extermely proud to have served, but more importantly, feel a great debt to those who have served before me.

+1 !

Great-Great Grandfather served in the Civil War

1 Grandfather served in the Spanish-American War

1 Grandfather served in WWI

Father served in WWII

Uncle served in WWII

Uncle served in Korea

None of them career Military.

To be honest, I didn't initially volunteer - War On - Vietnam. But volunteered to pursue the path I wanted instead of being conscripted.

Still, was brought up to believe that doing my bit was part of enjoying what this Country had to offer - couldn't have done it without the sacrifices of my relatives and their contemporaries.

Glad I did and,... can look each of my ancestors squarely in the eye !

cheers!

A friend of mine was talking about how it she was sometimes at a loss of what to say when people thanked her for her service but she decided that, "It was a privilege" was a good thing to say.

I thought that pretty much nailed it, but I've added, "It's an honor and a privilege."
