Hi there guys,

small bit of technicaBrain needed her.
im wanting to run my 3 guitars through my old Digitech RP6 pedal, into my PC. is there any east way to do that? to let the pedal do my processing and just use something like Reaper to record with? or even Audacity.
So basically i need to plug my Pedal somehow into something on my PC. and then just be able to output the sound into any sound program for recording.

also, hey! i've been afk for a while.
i decided to not get the tele or strat, and i bought a 1959 gibson les paul reissue... what do you think of those?

cheers!

Hi
I have been getting good results using my Zoom 4040 . Guitar into Zoom then lead out with a usb plug on the end going into laptop then just record into Reaper (the noise reduction in the Zoom helps make it sound more professional with no buzz), then a lead out from your headphone socket on lappy to amp so you can hear better the actual sound you're making

The other way of doing it is guitar into effects unit then into amp and cable from line out on amp into laptop . Try whichever method suits your particular setup the best

It'll work going into mic input on computer but
won't sound as good as using a PCI card/
interface.

This interface is very good:

Thanks for the advice. Isn't there a more simple way? like this looks very technical when i already have an effects processor pedal (multi effects). basically i don't want to spend alot of money here, and i don't want to have mixer's etc. i have a small bedroom

If you want a cheaper alternative, try this:

They don't seem to work! i have a Behringer Guitar Link (same thing) it won't recognise itself as an input. And when i get it working it's barely audible and seems to play the sounds im playing on my string as if im plying completely out of tune. and the crackling is just insane!

Then go with the Tascam. You don't need "mixers, etc" - just a digital signal.

Ok can you explain what the tascam does for me? can i plug my guitar into that without my pedal and just iuse a program for the effects? and also will i have any issues with having an onboard soundcard etc? i just have a shi*ty onboard realteck thing with my asus mobo.

with this device would i suffer from lag etc because i don't have a powerful cpu!

There are several reasons to use a dedicated audio interface, rather than the sound card built into your computer. Technically speaking, a sound card is an audio interface, but its limited sound quality and minimal I/O make it less than ideal for recording.

Most sound cards only have a consumer-grade stereo line level input, a headphone output, and possibly also a consumer-grade stereo line level output. Electromagnetic and radio interference, jitter, and excessive latency all degrade or negatively affect audio both on the way in and on the way out.

Sound cards are great for hooking up a pair of Hi-Fi speakers and playing back compressed audio, but you’re going to need a reliable audio interface for recording and monitoring production-quality audio. There is a mix control on the Tascam so you have zero latency and can balance your tracks via headphones.
Don't take my word for it...

Check out either Sound on Sound or HomeRecording sites:

A decent interface is important. I have a TASCAM UL122L that worked well enough on my old PC for that sort of thing. Now that I've moved to the Mac universe with all the speed goodies I decided to get a faster interface and bought a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24. Any cable adapter I ever tried was less than inspiring IMO. I've often wondered about the iRig or the other variant. (by Apogee? I think)

I use the Apogee Jam for iOS and iMac, but also like the Tascam US200 for an interface. I tried the first generation iRig, but it had issues and plugged into the headphone output - the newer iRig plugs into the data port, same as the Apogee Jam. I guess it's pretty much like anything, you get what you pay for. A friend bought the Presonus Audiobox and has had a lot of problems with it. Gotta love that hi-speed thunderbolt transfers on the iMacs though. 8)

M-Audio M-Track should suit all your needs, or a little up the price and quality range Focusrite Scarlett Studio.

Plugging direct to sound card inputs carries with it risks of blowing the card if used with some pedals; so you would at least really need a DI box.

Alternatively connect Gutar direct and use software such as http://en.kioskea.net/download/download-12113-guitar-studio

thanks for the replies.

i bought a Behringer Guitar Link before i posted. But the problem is, there's a wicked crackling sound and like a 0.5 second delay. i can't get it to be recognised as an input so i can't use it for guitar. and when i do get it working (only in 1 program) when i play a chord, i get 0.5sec delay, horrible crackling noises AND it plays the sound of the chord as if im playing the worst shaped chord ever. the strings are being picked up and completely 100% out of tune. it's like it's using an effect to destroy the tunning.

Any idea why i installled asio, windows installed and picked it up straight away and say's it's running percfect. but in the setting's when i click speakers for output, all that show's up for input is HD audio line in L and R.

on the interface. i think i'll pick up the one you suggested. but in the meantime any help here would be great!
