I just spent the last hour listening to various filtertron types, and to be honest, as great as they sound for certain things, they're not what I want for this either. I'll most likely go humbucker. Huge bummer I just sold my DeArmond gold tones 2-freaking days before finding this guitar. Those things would have been great in this hollow body.

But I still have some choices. I think the first one I'll try is a set of pickups that came off of a guitar synth. The brand is unknown. They were bought as Roland pickups. I had them on a LP before the neck needed work. The pickups are lower powered and crystal clear. Either those or a set of Giovanni.

Congrats, you really lucked into a really good deal with that guitar. She should really sing sweetly with those Duncans.I recently bought my first hollow body electric guitar,an Ibanez Artcore AFS 75 T in a beautiful transparent Blueburst and Duncan 'buckers". There is something about the tone of a great hollow body electric that makes you want to keep playing, just so you can enjoy the smooth, mellow, woody tones that come from it a bit longer.Have fun discovering the great tonal possibilities of your new baby.

BTW: I find that using the neck pickup with the tone rolled back about 2/3s really sounds great with some quiet jazz chords or lead work.Your tone controls are most likely different from mine so you roll back the tone to the point just before the notes sound muffled and bassy.A good hollow body electric can be extremely versatile and contains endless possibilities for different tones for just about any genre except for heavy metal and ultra hard rock of course.

It is a beautiful guitar. I really love the feel of it, and the Bigsby is freaking sweet. To be honest though, it's really hard to get a clean sound out of the Phat Cats. In my opinion, these are Rock pickups. Which makes sense in a Cheap Trick signature guitar. But I think I want a smoother, warmer, Jazzier sound out of it. The Phat Cats break up pretty early. The notes really want to jump out boldly and with a slight distortion to it. When you roll back it does clean up some, but they lose their flavor. I'll eventually get it to sound how I want it, and when I do, it will definitely be a long time keeper.

I recently equipped my 3 pup Epi Les Paul Custom with Vineham Sweet V-59s and they are without a doubt the best 'buckers I have ever used. These pickups are wound to emulate the more mellow PAFs yet when called upon can kick out some really heavy raunch.I prefer an almost jazz box tone from 'bucker equipped guitars so Craig Vineham suggested these and I'm glad that I got them because they really opened up the sound of that guitar.Look up Craig's website here: http://www.vineham.com or you can email him here: craig@vineham.com the guy is a wizard and now he's toying with the idea to start building a line of amps-that would be stellar.
