So two nights ago our fantastic local record store arranged a free gig in a local pub for The Billy Walton Band. I had never heard of him before but I do love a good big in a small bar so went along. Turns out Billy himself is a fabulous guitarist, best I've had the pleasure of seeing live in a long time.

Didn't take a video as I was enjoying the show just too much but you'd have to imagine that very loud in a local pub, fantastic evening!

To top it off he finished with a just epic version of "Little Wing" and then a rendition of "Moby Dick", with the drummer somehow doing justice to John Bonham with a ridiculous version of his famous drum solo!

Anyway they are on tour around the UK and Europe at the moment and they dropped in to do this free gig as a favour, but if one of their shows passes anyone then I really recommend you drop in!

That Atlantic City HOB clip is great - glad you saw the show and posted this clip. I'm always interested in hearing unknown (to me) artists.

New to me too. Nice! I'll check out his tour and see if he's coming somewhere nearby.

Thanks for the headsup, Snowjoe! :)

Cheers - C

Glad you enjoyed it guys, I did find one albeit awful picture, but it gives you an idea of how small the venue was (which I much prefer)

That was the sound check, but everyone was up dancing by the end!

I also hadn't heard of him before, apparently he used to play with Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, but making a go of it by himself now. The Trombone player and Saxophonist he brought were both two young guys too, their first time out of the USA, all really lovely people and I hope it goes well for them. Too much talent going to waste in this musical world of ours!

Ha, a bunch of middle aged guys playing pretty upbeat cliched guitar licks that never end, on what looks to be pretty expensive equipment, marketing themselves as blues.

Yep.

Actually only the front man and bassist could be deemed to be middle aged, the drummer and horn section were all in their early 20's.

It's a fairly damning evaluation of people you don't know, maybe some of it is a little cliched but a lot of blues music is, and they aren't out to make themselves out to have problems, they are 100% about people having a good time and enjoying the music. But hey I forgot, only certain types of people are allowed to play the blues.

That guy has also clearly poured more hours into his guitar than most of us could dream of, you won't get it from the video but he was just fantastic.

Why would I be jealous?

I'm sorry, I just have a really big thing against that kind of 'blues'. You know, the type that you associate with beer and and you hear being played in pubs all the time. I honestly just think it's all a very boring, processed act.
I'm not saying blues is restricted to certain people or anything. It's just that's not the blues in my opinion. And if you think it is, I cringe at that.

There you go. I said it.

That's my kind of blues and the guy behind the Strat is one smokin guitar player! :D
