Jimi Hendrix bought Electric Lady Land Studios.
My favorite story of Jimi and his sweet humble nature was by Eddie Kramer.
He said that during a recording session there, Jimi quietly walked in a sat down.
He turned and ask if it was ok if he sat and listened.
Eddie was amazed and said Jimi you own this place you can do what you want.
Jimi said yes but I wanted to make sure it was ok.

WOW!!! I didn't know that! Poor Jimi died but who owns it now? I really wish Jimi was alive so I can just tell him my problems that I have getting his sound, or was it set and forget? I have a good sound now but I wanna add a bit more spice to it :D

While watching the documentary the other night, I saw the part and then Jimi sitting at the board.

He seemed very humble on the Cavett Show too. When asked if he thought he was the best guitarist in the world, he said no, in the studio, he said no, then he said "in this chair - yes".

Sad to hear him tell reporters that he knew he would die before he turned 30, but could deal with it. Back then, even without any social media, he obviously got tired of being asked stupid questions.

RIP Jimi

I pass in front on Electric Land Land studio quite often, neighborhood is so different now. No longer run by the mafia, it seems everything is about shopping now, as if all clubs are slowly been replaced by frozen yogurt stores.

I'm just bringing a compliment to the dead man dude I'm sure he would like my sound at least, I can EQ it and set n forget like he did, and also what would he do with me if he was still alive? I'd be happy if he signed my guitar so I can sell it for big bucks, and then buy myself a 1969 Maple Cap Strat and probably play it like he did but right handed lol, if I find a rare Olympic White one I am gonna be stoked and name it "Woodstock Strat #2" and probably play that guitar until I drop dead actually, I'd be buried with my gear I think, I'd have to bury me in my whole house lol hopefully Jimi does take the compliment easy, I just wanna bring back the 60's, a time of love and sweet music, where PA's were not so advanced and amps would have to be cranked and drummers had to keep time, and bass players had to keep the rhythm, you know? I'm gonna get some custom made clothes like Hendrix but in my size lol so yeah that is my rant for today

If you get a chance sometime, a few exterior pics would be cool to see as time has passed by...

Everything in live music is fake, they lip sync the instruments and everything, but I can name a few bands who don't, AC/DC, Green day etc the older stuff don't sync their instruments unlike the new $@!& that is out there today, you know what I mean man?

All I know is that you obviously have no idea about current live performances whatsoever, but that's cool.

You mean like the Gibson robot tuners - minitunes, or something like that. Can't remember the exact name though.

No I mean that thing that they use to auto tune the singers to their instruments, but it works for instruments too, it's bad as well

Definitely, I wish I could go inside though, but I see little movement in and out of that place.

Not sure I completely agree with Nathan from Oz... but I will concede this much:

In an arena concert these days it is most likely that the guitars are played into rack effects and then straight to the PA... the amps/stacks on the stage are for decoration (often fake or gutted/hollowed out.)

I am not sure, but would not be surprised if such professional rigs have some kind of instrument auto-tuning... especially when the guitarist plays the same axe throughout the concert and never so much as touches the tuning pegs. (Other guitarists that swap out their axe between each song are obviously having their roadie/tech tune them.)

When the "cigarette-lighter-waiving-gals-lift-up-their-shirts" power ballad starts and that grand piano rises onto stage... it is a hollowed out shell with a keyboard fitted into it. (Could you imagine actually leveling and tuning a grand piano between every concert?)

Most likely the vocalists are singing into vocal effects processors as well. Their screams and headvoice are autotuned and sustained... vibrato and depth are added etc. (It ain't like the acapella audition for American Idol!)

The roadies at the mixer are continuously tweaking and soundgates are implemented.

All this is to say that there is a lot more than meets the eyes (and ears) when watching (and listening to) a modern performance.

Jimi (and the great musicians of his time and prior) did not have a fraction of this technology at his disposal during recording or live shows. I am too young to have seen Jimi live (or Clapton or Jeff Beck during the day) but I imagine watching him in concert he would not be using anything more than what he would use if playing with his band in a rehearsal garage... except maybe just higher volume through the speakers!
