Does anyone have a diagram so I can put a push pull tone pot on a modern player tele plus. I want to be able use the bridge and neck together. I replaced stock humbucker and put in Jb sh 4, and a three way toggle.

Welcome to the Forum thunderfan1979. That is a good question, someone will have the answer. Congrats, Telecasters are cool guitars, we love pic's. Have fun here!

Hi thunderfan1979, welcome to the Forum.

I'm wondering if the bit about a coil tap in the thread title is a little off the point? If you want to be able to play neck and bridge together on a three-pickup guitar it's not a coil tap or split you need, it's a switch to bring in the neck pickup regardless where the selector switch is set.

That's sometimes called the "Gilmour mod", because on his Black Strat Dave Gilmour has a little switch to bring in the neck pickup even if it's not selected, so's he can have bridge+neck or bridge+middle+neck, in addition to the usual three-pickup options.

To do that with a push-pull pot as you request, the nearest diagram I can find is this one at SeymourDuncan.com:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wi ... witch_f_bp

Don't worry that the diagram is for a Strat: it works the same for any three-pickup guitar.

You will need to modify that diagram a bit. You'll probably do better to have the switch work the neck pickup rather than the bridge, especially since you have a humbucker in the bridge position. It might keep things simpler.

And if you want the push-pull on a tone pot rather than the volume (as in the diagram) you just need to put it in that position instead.

But essentially, the concept in that diagram does what you seem to be describing.

Any help?

Cheers - C

Bien Venidos: Premier Guitar Magazine's Dirk Wacker does a series on modding guitars. Go into their website and search for mod wiring Telecasters. There might be something of interest there for ya.

Uncle Seymour has every schematic anyone would need to rewire a guitar.

Be aware that the colours of the wires may be different for Fender and Seymour Duncan humbuckers.

I have a pdf of the original wiring diagram Can I post that?

I am basically doing this. http://robrobinette.com/TelecasterMod.htm

But I put JB sh4 in the bridge already and put in three way switch with that, and I put Duncan vintage stack in the neck. Haven't changed the mid yet still deciding what to put in there.

So I am at the point of doing the neck on mod, but I am not sure about the blue wire from the original tone pot, where does it go on the push pull.

So you want to do a "neck on" mod, not a coil tap? The title of this thread mentions a coil tap. That's why I linked the coil tap schematic. Maybe if you told us exactly what you want from the three way switch and push pull pot we could be of more assistance?

Push pull, coil tap sorry I'm new to this stuff!!!!! I just want to use the push pull on tone pot to activate the neck so I can use the neck and bridge together.

Now I understand. The phrase "coil tap" means splitting the humbucking pickup to provide single coil tones. You just want a push-pull on the tone knob to engage the neck pickup, that's the "Gilmour mod" mentioned earlier.

After looking that over, they use a toggle switch, I already have a toggle switch, so I have to use a push pull but same concept.

Should be straightforward then, the switch part of a push-pull pot is exactly the same as a DPDT switch so just copy the wiring.

Are the three prongs at the top the same as the three on a regular tone pot?

Got it. Changed neck pick ups to Joe Bardens, the vintage stack didn't cut it.
put Duncan custom flat in the middle and Duncan Jeff beck in the bridge.
