Thanks my friend, I appreciate it. Back now but still doing the Reserve deal. Been spending a lot of time lurking on these forums and learning plenty from regulars like yourself.

My first guitar was a Stratocaster. I bought it during the Christmas holidays in 1967 after a summer of being blown away by Jimi Hendrix. Turns out it was a late '65 that had been patiently waiting for someone like Jimi to make Stratocasters popular again. Mission accomplished. :)

My very first guitar, if you can call it that was a no name acoustic for Christmas. I think it came from a local auto parts store, it had an action about like a dobro  . In spite of that piece of dung I still managed to learn to play.

Hello, my first guitar was a classic KASUGA (made in Japan) in 1976 and then in 1978 I buy a Strat copy MAYA, she had a 3-position selector.
I played on an amp SOLEC IC-182R.
I do not have the Maya, lost in a divorce, but the amp is still alive.
My first real Strat, I have offered myself for my 50th birthday! :D

Embarrassingly, yet Happily, my very first guitar was a Fender FSR American Vintage Limited Edition '57 Stratocaster (1 of 46 made) ! :D

Image

The Beautiful & Talented Mrs. LMN decided for our Anniversary that the time had come for me to realize a lifelong dream of learning to play the guitar. She arranged to buy this guitar for me (after having the Store line up an Eric Johnson, Clapton, Hendrix and SRV Strats for me to compare and choose from).

Image

Through the years, career and other Life sh*t had always prevented me from beginning. But, as I became semi-retired w/ more free time than I'd ever had, she decided the time had come. I wholeheartedly agree.

It is a truly magnificient instrument and while I in no way belong playing such a fine example, it is a pleasure to play, very motivating and drives me to become worthy of it in future.

As you can see from my Sig., I've since been well-bitten by the Gas Beetle. But I like top quality instruments and am fortunate enough to be able to acquire them.

You can't have too good of a Better Half !! 8)

cheers!

-Forum member airbornestrat and I couldn't agree with you more. In fact, the '87 prototype I just acquired was a gift from my wife.

From what I can see, most of us started on the bottom rung. My Harmony archtop's neck joint failed about two years after I purchased it. That Dano was an opportunity which came along just in time. The kind of 'starter' gear available now is a far cry from what we had to choose from. Must remember though, that the Danelectro's were the Squier Strats of our day. Man, they sold a ton of those masonite classics to us wannabees back then.

My first real guitar-

A MIJ classical.

I previously had a plastic guitar with 6 strings that you could actually tune--but it was a toy and I was 6.
Then I bought a cheap K-Mart special/waste of good plywood acoustic that I never bonded with.
When I really started learning & playing it was the classical above.

You can say that again!

The 70s did have one good thing going for it, nice MIJ copies, once we could afford them.

Still making those same ones now they just stamping the right names on them.
That same factory that made my Aria Les Paul Custom made the Orvilles.
So they didn't go away.
The best part I remember about the 70s is the price for an American strat or Gibson Les Paul.
Now those are the prices for the Mexican and Epiphones.

Wow!

I did used to play an old Epiphone Acoustic that was like a 38, is that right?
Did they make them that long ago?
My grandma had it she used to let me play it back when I was 16.
