The real mystery about Shatner is, how high were the elevator lifts in his shoes when he played Kirk opposite Nimoy in "Star Trek"? I worked with Bill on one of his low-budget blockbusters and he's only about 5'-7" tall. Not very commanding, I'm afraid.

He has probably lost a couple of inches since the 60s.

But height isn't needed to be commanding. Lenin was 5'4", Stalin and Churchill were 5'5" and Napoleon 5'6". Of today's leaders, Putin is 5'5" and Medvedev is only 5'2". They're certainly commanding enough.
