You need to watch this movie. I am not a Bruce Springsteen fan, I don’t dislike him, I listen to his music and I did buy one album, but I could not be considered a fan. I have always respected Springsteen for his song writing, he has written several songs that have been recorded by other people, like “Because the night” by Patty Smith and 10,000 Maniacs, and “Blinded by the light” by 10CC. I also remember the first time I heard “Born to run”; it remains my favorite song by Springsteen. So, even if you are not a fan of his, you need to watch this movie. If you don’t know, this movie is made up of homemade video clips of people talking about how Springsteen has affected their lives. I know, it sounds really cheesy, but it is put together very well. I have to admit I was moved a few times by some of the stories. After watching this movie I have a new respect for Bruce Springsteen. He has some of the most loyal fans in the world, and if he does not love them, he needs to win an award for acting. It is a shame more acts are not like him, he puts the audience in the show figuratively and literally. I would not be surprised if we see other films in this format.

I lost all respect for him when I heard he used to send people out to small cover band gigs then send the bands demands for royalties if they played one of his songs.

Sounds like an urban myth.

with his "blue collar" image and "people of the earth" attitude--I can't imagine him doing such a thing.

I like quite a bit of his music, but I'm not a "fan."

Maybe misinformation that Bruce was involved:
Quote:
According to an article in the New York Daily News, Bruce Springsteen sued a New York City bar for failing to pay royalty fees when a cover band performed some of his songs.

But Springsteen has denied any involvement in the suit. His publicity company, Shore Fire, has posted the following message on its Web site:

In regards to the ASCAP lawsuit against Connolly's Pub and Restaurant, ASCAP was solely responsible for naming Bruce Springsteen as a plaintiff in the lawsuit. Bruce Springsteen had no knowledge of this lawsuit, was not asked if he would participate as a named plaintiff, and would not have agreed to do so if he had been asked. Upon learning of this lawsuit this morning, Bruce Springsteen's representatives demanded the immediate removal of his name from the lawsuit.

The Daily News report said the unidentified band performed Aug. 9, 2008 at Connolly's Pub and Restaurant on W. 45th St. The business should have paid an annual licensing fee to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, which pays royalties to artists, the suit contends.

I respect Bruce for being able to sing and play at the same time but that pretty much sums it up. I dont watch his shows anymore even for free on Palladia. To me he's the Linda Mc Cartney in the band while Nils and Little Steven do most if the work.
