It was good. Nothing new really, but I imagine there are no surprises in Jimi's life.

One good thing was that there were no pledge breaks ( at least in my market ). Imagine that! PBS showing a rock show out of their fund raising weeks.

I really liked the show,there were only 2 or3 short bits of video I hadn't seen before. I was gobsmacked when one of the women they were talking to was finally identified as Fayne Pidgen,I would never have recognized her in a million years-her features have changed so much that it's unbelievable,she used to be quite the fox when she was younger,now she looks like she has had way too many face lifts or whatever,she even seemed to have trouble moving her lips when she spoke.

One thing in the program that really got my goat was when they identified Janie hendrix as Jimi's sister when she is absolutely no blood relation of Jimi's at all.She just had the incredible luck of being the daughter of Al's(Jimi's dad) 2nd wife.With Jimi's last call home shortly before he died,he couldn't even remember her name,yet she gets on with all of these "happy childhood memories" which are nothing but flights of fancy she concocted to gain credibility.As for Bobby aka Robert Hendrix he was regarded as a pariah after he had said some terrible things to Jimi and his younger brother Leon besmirching their mother's character when they were still in their early teens,and they never let go of the grudge because he never apologised or showed any remorse.

Ironically Janie took over all of Jimi's holdings royalties and everything else to do with him while his siblings Leon,Joseph,Alfred,Pamela and Kathy Ira got diddly.Jimi's closest blood relations are absolutely certain to this day that Janie had some kind of self serving influence over Al in his last few months of life and wouldn't allow any of them to see him because he was "too ill".They are sure that Al's rewritten will is in fact Janie's not Al's will and it was all part of her plan to gain control of Jimi's assets.
None of this was mentioned in the show and it appears that they took everything Janie said as gospel,they should've spoken to a few of his blood relatives especially the Jeter family-Jimi's mother Lucille's relations-they would have shone a completely different light on Janie Hendrix.

The comments from McCartney, Eddie Kramer, Steve Winwood and others were very interesting. It also seemed that Jimi didn't have any real tie to any favorite single guitar through his career. Yes, many Fenders and Strats, but different ones. The footage from The Cafe Wha and Band of Gypsies were also good.

PBS is about the only thing that keeps my wife and I from throwing the television out the window. Must admit I do turn it off during their pledge drives. But add up the time you sit watching advertising on cable channels while watching a program that is the 30th rerun that month. Don't forget your also paying to watch. PBS is free. My local station no longer carries ACL, so now we can go out on Fridays w/o having to be back in time to watch.

Oh man can I ever second this statement! We only watch netflix or vudu movies about once a week. I jacked into my big screen with my computer. I read news, comic books online and just surf web and shop on my tv now its a 42 inch led.

The only reason I give money to cable company is they provide me with internet. I have the record low number of channels, I think I pay 8 dollars a month for TV. When I want to watch TV I put a DVD on, no dumb commercials, no election propagandas, thank you Torrentz :)

What's ACL?

Why do you watch commercials? Why don't you time shift with a pvr? We never watch commercials any more. Except Victoria's Secret ones, of course :roll: :lol:

back on topic this documentary was really good. I learned a lot about Hendrix that I didn't know before. And I have only watched the first hour thus far.

ACL = Austin City Limits
ACL is one of the few reasons to even own a television, IMO.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I thought it was a really informative doc, what a humble guy for being such a incredible talent. I would have liked to see some whole songs being played though. I captured some stills that I may make a couple of t-shirts with. all in all a great show.
