You have brassier bells than I do. There's a vid of me playing the guitar for a big party, dressed up as a bride in white. I have threatened people with dismemberment if it ever came out.

I envy your cool, man. (And your tangerine Tele, but at least I can do something about that) :D

I wonder if this guy ran out and spent his hard earned money on a Fender after this?
I mean you guys all did your best stand up routines and greeted each other with high fives as the next one took over.
I wonder what kind of profit margin loss Fender takes for this.
I wonder if the CEO is aware of these events.
I bet he only thinks in dollar bills since that is his job.
And his employee is chiming right in.

I have said many times I am a Gibson and Fender guy.
I post both places because both guitars are equally crucial to me.
Its a very different world there in that lounge.
I wonder why?
I mean, it just occurred to me this lounge is sort of a market place.
I the consumer walk into it to discuss with the league of peers my likes and dislikes of the product my consumer dollars buys.
Its funny how now the cyber experience has all but replaced the mom & pop store experience.
Remember when a store owner was a grouchy old man to you?
Did you spend your money there or go to another store?
I walked into a store with $750 one time when I was 16 in 1979.
I was gonna buy a guitar off the wall.
The store guy was a condescending tool to me, and he worked on commission back then.
He never even knew he lost a pay check that day.

The profit margin for Fender sales of our beloved product pays for this play ground.
If enough customers are run off by people that already have they're guitars, who is going to buy them?

Well....lets get this thread back on it's original track.

So this guy is standing at the corner of a busy intersection holding up a sign which reads "Hungry" "Will work for food." A motorist stops, reaches into his lunch pail and profers the sandwich he prepared for his own lunch. The 'solicitor' looks at the sandwich, wrinkles his nose and says "WTF!" "Tuna fish?!?!?!?!" "I hate f---'in tuna fish!!"

That!! and only That!! is the issue at hand.

Hiya Donny,
Hmmm I think I agree with ya, for the most part, which is why I "Chimed" in. You may have noticed that I chimed in for pretty much what you are saying in your 2nd paragraph there. The Forum "playground" should be like that store that we both LIKED hangin out in...not the one with the grumps.
******
Not a secret that Fender pays for this site, and not a secret that they pay my salary (and by extension not a secret that YOU help pay my salary) So yeh, I'm with ya on that. I don't think I have to explain my presence here to ya, but I'm not unaware of all that goes with that, bad and good, PR and not PR. Luckily, No one has asked me, or ordered me to be anything but myself, because that would certainly end my participation. Perhaps my only disadvantage is the lack of anonymity, but that's cool...again...I'm aware.
So yeh, I think you make some good points.

Your a very nice man in all your interaction.
I would just like to see us all work towards welcoming each person 1 post or a million.
It seems lately there as been such a mood swing around here.
I am not innocent either.
But when we think we are having fun or not the next poster comes around and thinks we are jerks and buys an Ibanez.
Pretty soon cost cuts take away all the cool.

I think negativity is as catching as the flu in a virtual space.
I am going to start my own attempt to promote what I like and not dislike :)
I know there are always flakes going to wonder in, but what would Jimi do ;)

Jimi would pop a can of purple haze and unass in the confusion of the lavender fog at the first sign of anyone that reeked of bad vibes.

I'm not immune to this either. But I have to agree here- it would be nice to welcome new members and even old ones too without some longtime members driving new members away with rhetoric.
I would have liked to see intervention when Nathan came in because I believe some people get a hard time as a 'welcome'.. In my country, Cyber bullying is taken seriously and carries a prison term if anything bad comes of it. And by that, I don't mean suicide.

Not to mention the name and shame. I'm also sick of the belief that new people being made to 'earn their stripes' with the oldies and the like who think they are ringleaders who own the boards.

I think also a bit of an attitude adjustment is needed on some threads that get out of hand. They need to be reminded that this place is a privilege that Fender has made for us and not to use it as an outlet for their daily misery. Perhaps any members that make newcomers or even existing members feel unwelcome or abused- should be kicked off. Instead of shutting down threads- to get rid of weeds, you gotta pull them out from the roots.

Thing is, people don't interact with others online like they do in the real world. Let's perhaps use this as an opportunity to turn that around and encourage new members to contribute, and encourage our leaders (mods) to be more intolerable to 'earning stripes', bullying, stupid & irrelevant argument that leads to abuse and argumentative egos (for lack of a better word). We've either experienced it, or we've all seen it..

We should make this forum the best forum board there is :)
Peace.

We've really left the main line here. Again...It would be most appropriate if everyone went back and carefully read the first ten posts in this thread and refamiliarize themselves with the gist of what happened. An attempt certainly was made to redirect his attitude. In the final analysis, after it played out awhile, I don't see where an olive branch was the indicated remedy for the OP's 'disease', or why we've come this far in the discussion at all. IMHO it is not relevant to the original issue.

Um, hit them in the face with a vodka bottle and chase them away with rocks? Smash the windows while we're at it?

I think we're more civilized here.

The question is - what's the greatest benefit to Fender.
- A forum of hundreds of people, mostly very happy and friendly, and an occasional visitor who doesn't get along.
- A forum of a few people who sing Kumbayah, acting unnatural to not offend anyone, strictly patrolled to kick out those who sing out of tune.
- No forum.

We're not mind readers, and that the OP didn't like the first sites he was referred to wasn't something that was avoidable. When he acted pissed, there was really no way of making him happy short of Fender intervening. Which Fender did. And he then seemed happy enough, despite Rob also mentioning search engines, which he chewed out others for recommending.

Now criticizing regulars afterwards seems counter-productive to me. That only drives a wedge between even more people. Live and let live. And when someone gets irate, let Fender handle it. Don't be the Internet Police.
