I see, kids have different tastes, I have older music as my tastes and same with my electronics and music stuff too, it is way different, I played a 1977 Fender Strat that was all original, it was heavy but it made my back stronger, I even tried playing like Malmsteen on it but it was hard! I want to buy the guitar off the guy and it even has the original case, and wow does it play good! It's an original Red Strat with black pickups, such Richie Blackmore style! I even played smoke on the water as a tribute to him, but unplugged, so I had to imagine that I was playing with Marshalls and stuff, the guy was pretty impressed to say the least, I get to play that guitar sometimes :) I even have a few photos of me playing it somewhere and you should see it it is an original 3 bolt neck too, it's a 77 as well! I thought three bolt necks stopped in 1977? It plays great for a three bolt heavy as hell Strat, he says it's worth 8k so I may save up 8k and buy it off him along with the original case and everything, I will make that guitar scream in a good way :D

I don't know when they stopped for sure.
My first strat was a 76 got it in 80 for my 16th birthday

I like you kid you got style. :)

Nice, that looks like a Gilmour Strat but with the big headstock lol, I loved the red Strat, I should find the photos and get them scanned and post them here :D

There is a great article on Microsoft co-founder in the next to last issue of Guitar Aficionado where he talks in depth about the Woodstock Strat that he ended up paying $1.3 million for.He said that it should be played and enjoyed by others-who are worthy,I imagine-as that is exactly how Jimi would want it.The one thing that I wasn't crazy about was Kenny Wayne Sheppard was the one picked to play it at its first public appearance since Jimi used it last-I think that Jimi's fellow Seattlite and tribute guitarist Randy Hanson or even Frank Marino for that matter would've been a much more suitable choice. If anyone hasn't heard Randy's playing, check it out on Youtube-he is about the only guitarist who can actually capture every nuance of Jimi's playing and you can almost feel him channeling Jimi.

After the concert honoring what would've been Jimi's 50th birthday in Nov. 1992,Randy happened to be headed through the same door at the after concert meet and greet as Al Hendrix-Jimi's dad.Randy motioned for Al to go ahead of him to which Al replied "After you,Jimi."that's the greatest endorsement of his playing that Randy could have ever hoped for.

It's always amusing to hear the dissenters rail on the Rich.

Even if it were true that they 'own' 99% of the World's wealth (which isn't true, just a propogandized slogan), that still means that we own 1% of it !!

If you look back in History, you'd find that this is the first time in the History of Man that we have ever owned this much. It is something to celebrate rather than rail against.

Most self-made Rich got that way because they simply made better choices than the rest of us. Choices which many of us weren't willing, or smart enough, to make. Take away their money and they'd be back on top soon because of the choices they make. In contrast, look at how many Lottery winners wind up bankrupt... that's almost inconcievable, but certainly unforgivable.

So far as inherited wealth, somewhere along the line someone actually worked and risked for it, so no problem there either. I personally know the great-grandson of the founder of one of the major Pharma cos. His trust entitles him to the interest on the interest of the trust and that totals in excess of $33M/yr. He lives very modestly (especially by $3M/mo. standards). He has everything he needs and so most of that money is invested in companies which provide jobs to the rest of us.

The fundamental flaw of the Occupy Movement (and a lot of Liberal Politics) is it's disregard, if not outright ignorance, of the concept of Ownership. These people felt they were entitled to that which belonged to other people. A very slippery $@!&# which is governed solely by where one draws the line. I wonder how these 'occupiers' would feel if someone lower on the Food Chain decided that they were entitled to their property ?

Lots of people complain about the 1%ers, but then trot down to the Qwik Stop every Friday to buy a Lotto ticket, so that they can join their ranks !

cheers!

I don't care who owned/played/touched a guitar, it is still only a guitar and not worth any more than another like it. Let the fools spend their money, then they'll die and someone else will get the guitar, whoopty-freakin'-do!

The show History Detectives did a story on this Strat & compiled pretty convincing evidence it is Dylan's Strat.

As for the Auction, it will get big bucks because of who used it & when.

But at the end of the day those things don't make it play or sound better--so save your money, get a decently priced Strat and make your own history with it.

There are different ways of looking at the ownership and preservation of historical artifacts. I have collected several types of things over the years and I know if they are not taken care of properly, they tend toward degeneration. I have one old book from the early 1700 that is wrapped in archival plastic that keeps the books from decaying. If handled improperly, oils and contaminates from one’s hands can cause the book to degenerate. The same is true with collectable cars, guitars, or various artifacts. The more they are touched, used, handled, the faster they decay. They need to be preserved properly so their history can be passed on. I think it actually selfish to say, “It should be used for what it was intended—to be played!” That is utter nonsense. If one wants to play a guitar, go by a new one. Don’t use up and eventually destroy a historical artifact. I am glad I was able to show my kids Jimi’s Strat at the Paul Allen’s EMP in Seattle and the guitar was not in someone’s home getting played and used up. I hope a rich person buys this Strat and puts it in a sealed display with all the paperwork and history for people in future generations to know about.
