I would love to have that guitar, not because of its supposed infamy but because it marked a turning point in his music and his style, plus that was the guitar that he used on my 2 favourite albums of his: "Blonde on Blonde" and "Highway '61 Revisited". I wish I had the bucks to bid on that invaluable piece of music history because in playing that guitar Bob brought together two forms of music that would create a whole new genre that went viral and became folk-rock which gave an enormous boost to the careers of many musicians and groups and also spawned others such as Donovan,The Byrds,The Grass Roots,The Lovin' Spoonful,Spanky and Our Gang,The Critters and countless others.

I can see that guitar easily hitting the six figure mark and probably hitting the mid and upper six figure numbers. If I hit the jackpot between now and then, you can rest assured that I would be going to that auction and keep on bidding until that puppy was mine. If I were to pick one Iconic instrument that I could have that guitar would definitely be one of the finalists on my list.

isn't this the Strat that was just "taken home" and not mentioned by a charter pilot when Dylans crew left it on a plane back in the '60s......and now his daughter is trying to sell something they'd call "stolen" where i'm from?

That's the widely circulated story of how it came to auction. I think the argument is that if you leave something on a plane and don't check on its whereabouts for nearly 50 years then it's recovered as lost property and ownership passes to whoever found it.

The wikipedia article does say that the authenticity is disputed and that Dylan's lawyer stated that the Newport Strat is still in Dylan's possession. Maybe this one isn't the Strat we're looking for?

... which means that another great vintage Strat will be bought by a banker, locked away and never played again. And maybe brought out at parties and shown to his friends.

We can only hope that a few bankers are bidding the price rockets and the "lucky" one gets suckered for a couple of Mill

Booooooo!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Dylan_controversy

Even a guy at work wanted to tell me about this.
I stopped to see how my brother in law was coming along on his 36 sedan project.
He couldn't wait to tell me something in my own language.
He saw it on the news.
Very cool piece of history there in such fine shape.
Needs to be in a museum like the Hendrix Woodstock Strat.

Yes that's what I used to have was LP records.
I was a big KISS freak and Black Sabbath
When My son got to be your age he was into kOrN and Slipknot.
Now I don't know who the big heavy bands are as I like Slash a lot for new.

I see, kids have different tastes, I have older music as my tastes and same with my electronics and music stuff too, it is way different, I played a 1977 Fender Strat that was all original, it was heavy but it made my back stronger, I even tried playing like Malmsteen on it but it was hard! I want to buy the guitar off the guy and it even has the original case, and wow does it play good! It's an original Red Strat with black pickups, such Richie Blackmore style! I even played smoke on the water as a tribute to him, but unplugged, so I had to imagine that I was playing with Marshalls and stuff, the guy was pretty impressed to say the least, I get to play that guitar sometimes :) I even have a few photos of me playing it somewhere and you should see it it is an original 3 bolt neck too, it's a 77 as well! I thought three bolt necks stopped in 1977? It plays great for a three bolt heavy as hell Strat, he says it's worth 8k so I may save up 8k and buy it off him along with the original case and everything, I will make that guitar scream in a good way :D

Totally agree with both you and GilgaFrank. A guitar, or any instrument for that matter should be played, not just become a party piece for the rich and over influential.

the world is just a disaster. it's run by the "elite" who don't care about the needs of the little people, they just care about how much money they can make. like i said somewhere else. look at the english prime minister. instead of dealing with pressing matters like homelessness and people being too poor to be able to afford food etc because they're only getting 70 pounds per week in the UK, he spent months and millions of pounds lobbying to make sure that high ranked bank officials still get their Bonuses every year. (in some cases 100's of thousands in bonuses). he actually lobbied for it as he said they didn't deserve to be denied whats rightfully theirs.
even though it's them who caused these recessions and them who're central in what is now a major gap between the elite and the non elite.
i mean these guys have paintings in their houses that are worth more than an average person makes in 10 years, yet they're upset and butthurt because they might lose their bonuses.
they're actually reducing the social welfare payments of people under 24 next year to 100 euro per week down from 188. yet the high ranking bank and government officials saleries (some 800k per annum +) don't lose a single penny of their pay or bonuses.
take it from the youn and the elderly basically, and leave the bigshots committing gross misconduct on criminal levels every day have their 800k + 150k bonuses per year. this world is a SICK place

The number one murderer of innocent persons is government - not including those killed in war.
