I almost always bend with one finger. Not recommended. I do it because it's a decades old bad habit.

It's made by Planet Waves, I use it a lot as I have a touch of arthritis in my left hand. They're pretty reasonably priced, and great for building up finger muscles, and lower forearms.

I use one of these. Made by Planet Dog:

Seriously. It's much better workout for my fingers than any expensive tool.

Good idea, I used to use a soft squeezy ball a while back. I then got one of those expensive power ball things, and that was a bit useless, as my hand wasn't strong enough to hold on to it. Unbelievably the family dog now has it, and guards it with her life! The planet waves thing works for me though, hopefully the copper bracelet I just ordered will help too.

When I started playing guitar I had a hand me down from my uncle that had stings like the mooring cables of a super tanker,a neck like a fence post and about 1/2" action. When I finally got a decent electric guitar my fingers were incredibly strong and I could almost bend the strings off the fretboard despite having small hands. With these assorted afflictions I now have in my hands, they have almost become atrophied and my playing has degraded by about 80%.The only way now I can keep some semblance of my old playing style,I've had to switch to .007-.038 strings and I find that this gauge really has helped me to keep some modicum of dexterity and now I am able to still bend the strings almost 4 steps.Tobougg it may help you if you gave a set of these strings a tryout because I can do deep bends with just my middle or ring finger of my fretting hand-something that was pretty well impossible to do before I switched. The strings I use are Reverend Willy's Texas Lottery .007-.038. gauge,I got 12 sets from Strings and Beyond for just over $50,and that was delivered to Canada. http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/

Okay, will cancel the order - hopefully it hasn't gone through yet.

Finger tips is best, but I would start with the whole of your fingers first, as they take a bit of getting used to, and your fingers will ache a bit.

perfectm i hope it helps you in future brother. im not sure if it has any kind of reverse effect, but i do believe it's preventative, so maybe at least it won't get any worse for you with luck! can't hurt to try anyway, let me know how you get on anyway in a couple of weeks maybe

i might give those a try thanks for you help.
"mooring cables" that made me laugh lol.
yeah see all the strings apart from that G string are working great for me with 9's. that G string just feels like a sharp, stiff, hard piece of metal to me, seems like no difference between that and my last set of strings, even though the change in the other 5 string seems quite large.
i have small hands and my little finger is not long enough and my fingers are very thin you see. i hate them, so maybe if i keep strengthening them with the tool stevie mentioned and the ball together it'll help.
i'd be fine only for that damn G string

i know it's probably not the norm, but i'd be very interested to see if the bracelet actually helps you at all, and not sure if it's easy to keep in contact on here, but maybe while you're testing it you could email me. 65daysastatic@gmail.com, cheers

You can raise the treble side of the pickups a bit to compensate.
For better and worse, that also makes it pick up less of the string next to it, for a "cleaner" sound.

And some strings are more magnetic than others. The aforementioned Ernie Ball Cobalt strings are made from an Iron/Cobalt alloy which is more than 20% more magnetic than nickel plated strings. They're also less stiff than steel strings. But they do paint your fingertips black, and do cost twice as much as they should.

I have 8's on one guitar here, and they're definitely loud enough. The main problem I have with that thin strings is that they bend too easily - I have to be very careful with how hard I fret.

im just saying mate, a friend of mine used one after being an outdoor painter for scores of years in a country that is very cold and wet, and he never got arthritis or any problems with his hands after it. im only saying from my experience it MIGHT help the guy, and it's inexpensive and it can't hurt to try right?
