After years of being in awe of the E-Bow after first hearing it on Manny Carlton's superb lead break on Nazareth's incredible cover of Roy Orbison's "Love Hurts".E-Bow has now come out with the E-Bow Plus which does all of the tricks the original did and it also adds harmonics as well as 9ths 5ths etc. depending on how you use it.There is quite a learning curve involved in mastering it but once a guitarist becomes adept at using it to it's fullest potential, the sky's the limit.I went on Youtube and watched some demos, one that blew me away was one that a British guy-the sounds that he was getting out of that little gadget just using a looper were spellbinding.I ordered mine from Long and McQuade for$20 less than the best U.S. price I could find, plus it was shipped this morning and Imay even get it by the weekend. This will certainly save on my picking hand as it heals from the Carpal Tunnel surgery.

I've got one. Great device and so sensitive. Just remember to lower your volume on your guitar when you play it or you'll deafen yourself! They really kick a high level signal through your amp. You can get it to sound other worldly you really can. Try combining the endless sustain with delay and effects and it opens up even more doors.

What about Phil Keaggy playing this; he's using the old ebow. Was the British guy Stuart Adamson from Big Country? I know he used it a ton and the Edge from U2 as well. Steve Hackett used it as well.

Ha - that's a nice extra factor. Good luck with it, Derek. Please come back and tell us how you get on with the E-Bow.

Cheers - C

Thanks Ceri,I'll try to get something done once I get the hang of the thing and if Blinkers would be kind enough to give me a hand.Gorgon,I don't know exactly who the British guy was just that he was using a looper and the E-Bow Plus and a delay too I believe, anyway he got the thing sounding like a space age symphony orchestra by the time it was done.

Yeah i don't think it was the guy from Big Country as i don't remember ever seeing a video of that. I'll have to search YT for it.

With a looper and delay you can come up with all sorts of crazy sounds. To get even crazier i play it and manipulate the whammy pedal at the same time! Now that can sound like you're about to start a world war or something! The pitch going up and down with permanent sustain is unreal!

I was thinking that a Leslie and a flanger through a digital delay would really sound pretty freaky too.I don't have a looper but I may break down and buy one after hearing what a difference it can make in using an E-Bow,but that's about all that I'd use it for because I always had a feeling that using one in a live performance would be tantamount to cheating, especially when doing Hendrix covers.I sure that a lot of people rely on them for sound enhancement and sound great using them but they're really not for me.

I remember when i first bought the original ebow and tried it with an EH Electric Mistress and an EH Memory Man! I swear i had that thing sounding like a church organ or something!

You can get some insane tones when you combine it with effects! 8)

I'm not too fond of the ebow - I want a gizmo. Too bad they don't make those anymore.

I had some fun using a dremel at low speed with a wooden circular tip (that I made with the dremel) against the strings. They would scream.
I'm considering stealing a girl's fingertip, er, device, and see how that works.
