Yesterday I picked up my Guitar Aficionado-Collections book that was heralded to be the be all and end all of guitar collections books. There are some excellent guitars featured between the covers but to anyone who has read Guitar Aficionado magazine it's plain to see that they are mostly reprints of celebrity guitar features that have been in the magazine.Granted the book is extremely well printed on the finest and heaviest glossy paper stock but I was at least expecting to see several group shots of each star's entire collections with probably a few favourites featured.I have only read about 130 pages but so far there haven't been any surprised except for those pix from issues of G.A. I have missed. For anyone who hasn't read any issues of Guitar Aficionado it would be a great read but I feel somewhat jaded because the book only features cherry picked favourites of the owners and doesn't contain entire collections as all the hype would lead one to believe.I bought through Chapters at a reduced rate,so I don't mind so much and it is a book that is worth having on hand but it falls short of being the quintessential collections book I was expecting.

I just picked up the Tony Bacon - Six Decades of Telecasters book and it's really done well.

This one:

I've got some books I still look through(sometimes), like "The Fender Book by Tony Bacon"..."The Bass Book", "The Gibson Les Paul Book". I've got a really good one called "American Guitars by Tom Wheeler", with an intro by Clapton. I hate to say it...but the guitar and bass sections of Ebay are better than all of them.

I looked through a friend's stack of newer guitar mags a few weeks back. I mostly saw guitars and basses that an MMA fighter would play. I thought the Ed Hardy thing was out of style.(?) Schecter used to be a great high end guitar...now they're sponsored by Axe Body spray.

I have several Frontlines from 2004 to present but sadly not from every year.I have bought several books this year dealing with specific guitar models and on the whole they are really good, one book on Fender guitars and one on Gibsons both have DVDs included that feature full collections of well known collectors and not just a handful of cherry picked favourites.I still have a couple on back order.
