I've been a piano player most of my life and have been working on my blues guitar technique for a little while. I have a couple notes that I know are good to bend but am wondering what others also work.

I've been bending:

- The 4 to the 5--full step (especially when playing the V chord, which is really just bending the 7 to the 1 if you're thinking in terms of the V chord)
- The 5 to the 6--full step (on the I chord)
- Sometimes I'll slide the minor third to a major third (on the I) but I guess I could bend it there as well as well--half step
- Maybe the minor third to the 4--half step (on the IV chord and maybe the I?)

Anything else I'm missing?

Thanks!

Perfect fourth to augmented fourth and augmented fourth to fifth, surely?
And minor seventh to the octave.

The chord doesn't change which notes I bend - the scale and mode does.

All of them, sometimes two at once.

Dang, Frank. You've got some chops!

I like the "all of them" philosophy and you definitely show that it can be done.

I'll be taking some notes, thanks!

That's the way to be! I'm working on getting to that point. Part of me wants to understand why bending a certain note sounds good at a certain place but the end goal is to get to the point where it comes naturally without thinking. Sorry to say I'm not there yet...

I should really do a video showing some of that bending technique. If I ever get round to tidying up my music room then I'll maybe do that.

One effective way to bend was demonstrated by Kurt in the masterpiece "In Bloom."

3:15 here. I wonder if he was worried about the III or the V chord or whatever.

That was my thought as well.

Sometimes I bend too many.

Bending has always been a huge part of my playing style and when my hands were in much better shape than they are now,I didn't have any problem bending the A 0n the 14 fret of the G string to an E or even higher at times. After being so heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix,Albert King and Buddy Guy,I couldn't help getting the bending bug deeply ingrained in me and I end up either bending or adding a degree of vibrato to every note that I hit,not so much to become repetitive but just enough to be tasty yet still my own style.I'm still trying to fine tune perfectly executed and totally in tune 2 string bends but it is pretty difficult to do with much finesse,in time I will do it because I have my mind made up to be able to do so,it'll just take time-then it will be on to 3 string bends.

Let me know if you do. I'd be stoked to check it out.

Definitely doubt it in his case but knowing a little theory never hurt anyone.

I seldom bend a full half-step unless I'm bending before the pick. When bending before the pick I aim (sometimes successfully) to be dead on a full half-step, usually 2 to 3, pick the note and release back down to the 2. Gives it a pseudo slide feel.

I like the sound of full step bends but I don't do it often. I prefer bending with just one finger on the note and it's hard for me to do a full step bend without using more fingers on the string to help with the bend.

I don't know if I'm bending half- or whole-steps, or basically anything about what I'm doing...I gotta get some knowledge about music theory one of these days.

Anyway, I just bend until it sounds right, then I stop.
