yeah I saw that last week, I'm not too worried:

YouTube will reportedly offer both free and premium tiers, the premium featuring incentives such as commercial-free listening.

Remember buying a Record, Tape or CD and listening to it start to finish while studying the album cover and reading the lyrics and production credits?

remember paying $15.99 + tax for 1, maybe 2 good tracks because you couldn't listen first before buying?

Remember when artists used to get paid to create music?

I remember dedicated record stores that would let you listen while examining the glorious covers and liner notes. And clerks that learned your taste, and told you about new records or things they thought you would like. They'd anti-stat the records for you when you bought them. And good customers would get a plastic sleeve for free.

No. That hasn't been common since the days of the great classical composers, where they worked on commission for rich patrons. Since then, they've normally been paid to sell or perform music, but not just create it.

Heck, I still remember going crazy reading through each month's offerings from Columbia House!

Buy Four and get Eight free! How sweet was that?

And, yes, I've still got all my vinyl. I wish those cool album frames weren't so spendy.

RTO (Record and Tape Outlet) Dunedin FL ca. 1988. Cool place. Clerks would actually get excited to tell you about some new record they had that they thought you’d be in to. Or just talk music. Right next to The Lords of Hair which was a barber that had the greatest name ever with a cool sign taboot.

My favourite store was called the "Mad Hatter". They sold records and hats. Real hats, not caps and such. If I remember correctly, the zoning permit for that part of the street was only for clothing stores.

The guys there taught me how it was better to buy sapphire stylus needles and change them monthly than diamond ones changed yearly. And sold me the PiL metal box.
