To me,

Mike Portnoy or Neil Peart. I've seen them both live and they just blew me away.

I, too, think that John Bonham is a over-rated drummer.

Personal opinions I suppose.

the top ten drummers in world history are probably
all not in the music line and unknown
they play their drumset in high rise buildings
such as apartments, flat or condominiums
with the whole block of neighbours
looking forward to listen them play

There are many fine drummers out there. The best drummer that I've had the pleasure to play with is a guy named Mike Mangini.

Finally, someone agrees with me!!! And you know, it's not even the fact that he did long solos that made him such a great drummer, it was the fact that he was so out of it, but he was still able to keep in time and some times predict when Pete Townshend was going to stomp so that he could do the sound effects. Plus, when he got into the double bass, he did a left foot lead and filled in all the sound gaps with his right foot, whereas basic drummers like myself(yes, I play drums too) would lead with our right foot and fill in gaps with our left. With him being righthanded, this is pretty amazing. Another thing is, he didn't stay on one side of the drum kit, he used the whole thing. If you gave him 20 tom-toms, 2 bass drums, 5 snares, and 15 cymbals, he would use them all. He didn't like to limit himself

love keith moon i think alex van halen
and keith moon are the 2 best drumers in rock n roll.

A little trivia Keith Moon died in 1978 and he died in the same room as Mama Cass Elliot of the Mamas and Papas

This is a kinda funny story, supposedly true. This is the YouTube video, but you can Google 'Scott Halpin' for more.

A lot of times we confuse "best" with "Favorite"
My favorite drummers would be Bonham, Moon, Jonathan Mover, & Tommy Aldridge.
The thing about Bonham & Moon is that without them their bands didn't sound the same. Many drummers are excellent drummers, but they didn't leave their mark on their bands like these guys did.

And they're all very incredible drummers.
The best drum solo I ever saw live was Jonathan Mover when he was playing with Joe Satriani.

But best?

I'd have to say it's any of a number of jazz drummers I've heard. I don't listen to a lot of jazz, but there have been some incredible drummers in jazz. Some of them such as Max Roach & Buddy Rich have already been mentioned.

SO put me down as saying those 2 as best, with a slight edge to Max Roach.
