It took me a few months to clear out the basement. Great space too. I wanted to turn this into a jam room. Our so-called wonderful cat decides to urinate in the basement. And she has done this many times. Now there is a terrible cat pee odor! I love this cat . .. my step son loves this cat more than I do . . . .I have to admit.

Now the new project is ripping out the carpet . . . and discarding the nasty rug.
Luckily the rest of the house has hard wood flooring.

Even the scent neutralizer we got - - - does not work!!!!! Aaaargh!!!!!
I just had to vent on the forum. This cat really upset me.

Get rid of the cat  and than enjoy your basement.

Seriously, that 'smell' is very hard to get rid off. Years after my friend's cat was gone his room was still having that unbearable smell . and still does.

I got rid of a rat stink with Baking Soda (Bicarbonate of soda), heaps of it, in trays and spread on the floor. Vacuum and replenish every couple of days. It eventually eliminated the stench. It's fairly cheap to buy in bulk. Like I said, you need a lot.

Or .... get a dog.

Goodonya ...Mark.

Google "Pet Pee Pee' and see if there's a franchise in your area, or if you can by their products for a DIY.

Yankee Candles will work - the balsam fir or a few other scents will eventually take over - just be careful not to knock it over.

Cat pee is hard to get rid of it takes time and a lot of work. I will get into hardwood floors. Just keep at it

I can personally vouch for there being no advantages to having dogs in lieu of cats. I've done both...Ufff!!!

I also can agree on this

What you need is Big Cat pee Lion preferably that should show the little tyke that it's not his territory, go find somewhere else punk, course you'll have to live with the absolute repulsive Lion wee pong until such times as little tigger finds a new latrine location, rock and a hard place eh mmmm I've heard that charcoal is a natural odour eater, hey you could try that first of all then cut a piece of that carpet put it as far away from the house as you can then get little tigger to frequent the area until he's comfortable doin his business in the open air......no guarantees or money back

Lava rock also absorbs Oder quite well. They sell them in a mesh bag you can hang up. Then you set them in the sun and it reactivates them

Not a Cat person at all... never was, and at this point in my life, never will be.

As such, most might find my solution offensive.

Love Dogs, Birds, Fish and other small animals, just not those of the Feline variety.

cheers!

Cats are cool. They let you live in their homes.

I know a lot of people feel as you do and that's great !

But, I remain unconvinced.

My college roomate had a cat... hated it, always felt I was being watched.

Many of the women I dated had cats, several of which clawed my pants to shreds... when I uh... um, wasn't wearing them. 8)

Plus, I think I'm mildly allergic because whenever I'm in a home w/ cats, the next day I always have some mild respiratory distress.

So... just not for me.

cheers!

Understand the allergy situation. That's developed here, to the nines, which why we can't live with cats any longer. Cat's don't watch you. In fact, they don't give a $@!& what you're up to. They do you this great favor of giving you some attention when they feel like it, and permitting you to feed them and maintain their litter boxes. However, if you're lucky enough to share a domicile with a loyal loving cat, it's a gift. Like I said...cats are cool.
