Have you ever felt like you don't fit in with an online community? I am not referring to Fender Lounge, i feel very in touch with our community here. I am part of another guitar forum and it just seems like any time i post or anything i comment on is either vilified or ignored. it is very strange, i know a fair amount about guitars and feel that i give solid and respectful replies. It just feels like i really don't belong there. It is odd because in everyday life i am very normal and well adjusted and can get along/converse with most everyone. I am thinking i should just stop posting at the other place, or maybe i am just overly sensitive?

So tell them to kiss your backside goodbye and then hang out here with the beautiful people. 8)

if the other place rhymes with Bibson or Stepiphone, it's not just you.

I can't keep an account at talkbass. I don't think some of their members, many of them being the actual company(or higher up representative)..like me telling noobs to always buy used. Why spend $500. on a new Chinese made bass, when you can buy a 2nd hand Peavey(Made in U.S.) for $150.? Those kind of comments throw their whole hidden advertisement way off. The advice you get from actual pro bassists is a plus, but those guys aren't really allowed to speak the truth, with their butt on the line with an endorsement and all.

When an bass company says they've switched to poplar for tonal reasons(for example)...I tend to jump all over that. I try to be as blunt as possible, while still being nice.

Shoot...I'm glad I don't fit in there.

I've lurked on that forum a little. They seem to have more banned members than band members.

I came to this thread thinking we'd be discussing stompboxes...

Another guitarists' forum which I won't mention ... every post is how do I get more gain out of my amp or how do I play faster or how do I get a great death metal tone ... I didn't stay there very long.

Besides this forum there are only two others which I have found that have genuinely knowledgable people and useful guitar related information. The other two cater more to the experts but they lack in the common courtesy department so posting in those areas can be a mixed blessing. I limit my visits to lurking. I won't say where they are but I will say if you want friendly, this is the place to be. Occasionally we get somebody acting out or showing attitude but the membership has a way of dealing with those things before the authorities are called in. It's rare that someone from Fender has to step in.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks for the input, sometimes i just start to think there is something wrong with me. I really never try to cause any problems and feel that everyone is entitled to their opinion. I will just stay true to my fender roots and just lurk occasionally on the other forum (no not Bibson or Stepiphone... that did make me laugh out loud). So long story short, thanks.

I've lurked on a couple of other guitar boards and joined another when I was looking for more specific info, but this is the only board that I really hang around on. I've always been a loner, but I feel comfortable here.

I think part of it is that this board has a fair amount of... how should I put this delicately... age gifted people.
If you visit a forum for death metal axes, the maturity level is likely not going to be the same. And, indeed, you can see a certain difference between the forums here too.

I thought this was going to be a thread about the size of pedal boards.

Me too, but it's good to hear people enjoy this forum.

I lurked around for a bit, outside...it's soooo cold outside. Anyway I pretty much hang here with the cool knowledgeable folks here. I may hit a vintage amp for ideas once in a while, but rarely. We here have many great amp gurus on board...Arjay...BMW...bluesky to name a few. Anything that makes feel uncomfortable in life, I move away from. Not worth the Bovine Feces if you will :!:

I came for the pedal boards..

However, I have to agree with the above statement. Bearing in mind, there are a select few that I personally know how old they are.. But my guess which I would say wouldn't be far off the mark is the average age here on Fender Forums tend to be middle aged or older.. There are some young guys but perhaps majority are older people. On the plus side, the forums are pretty tame. Good quality topics and discussions. On the negative- if someone doesn't like your opinion or if you challenge something, you can sometimes see them get very offended if their credibility is questioned even mildly- to the point they will respond with abuse or sarcasm with a 'I've got years on you, mate..' rhetoric..They usually don't take to change too well and so to younger users who seem a little cocky.

One thing about Internet forums is that they are a faceless community. Users can very easily exert their opinions and even argue with keyboard stokes without asking the question of whether they were face to face with an individual, would they act or argue in this manner or cower? One thing to learn if you don't already know about (most people will) is Internet etiquette. It's too easy for someone who takes it all too seriously to become a keyboard warrior

Golden rule #1- if you get angry, annoyed, pissed off, offended about what people say or lack thereof- time to ask yourself if it's really time to go outside and get some sunshine to put it all in perspective. Forums are really meant to be treated like a pot of chips.. Taken with a pinch of salt and let them cool if they get too hot.

Otherwise, I've been around here long enough to remember names of good members been burnt by others that are just too opinionated in their ways for their own good.. Sometimes followed by the obligatory sad topic of 'these forums aren't what they used to be- I'm done'. Seen that happen unnecessarily all too often.. Ain't nothing to loose sleep over, but would be good to see members back- even those who just quietly stopped posting
