What do you think? Is this really a 1968 Telecaster?

Cheers

David

One consideration might be that it's in the CBS-Fender period, even if authentic. Seller should have photo'd the serial number.

Ad says the serial is 241977

As the seller says, it's a bit ausgedunkelt but everything about the pics seems to ring true. Maybe, just maybe the frets have been replaced, can't tell from the pics though.

Well, it appears genuine, but I would NEVER pay $7800USD for a Vintage Fender w/o first checking the markings on the neck, body neck cavity, pickups and pots. Without verifying it's age in this way, there's really no way to date it for sure, and there are LOTS of very good counterfeits out there.

Plus, $7800USD is pretty much the Top of the Market for a '68, and the few in this range included case candy, tools and ashtray which this one doesn't seem to have. A quick check revealed a couple in the $3600 - $5000USD range which appear in similar condition to the one posted here.

Caveat Emptor rules the day !

Good Luck !

cheers!

That was clear to this Amerikaner from the copy. Nothing like a course like German for Scientific Reading Knowledge to sharpen one's language skills. I was more interested in where it was placed. Was it a decal on the headstock, or engraved into the neck plate. Can't tell from the pics. To cross-'i' and dot-'t' people, shtick like that matters. Lightnin's comments support that.

Hi David: from small photos on a computer screen I see nothing obviously wrong.

The tuners look right.
The neck looks right.
The knobs look right.
The switch tip looks right.
The ferrules look right.

Don't know if the neck plate is right or not.

However. The price is extreme, as Lightnin' says. Here's one that claimed to be a mint '68 in London for half the price:

Though again, small pictures, and nobody would dream of handing over that much cash on the basis of an internet ad, not without A LOT more info, and preferably hands on.

Cheers - C

The wear on the body looks odd.

+1

As well, it's a re-fret using non-original wire.
