Today I was surprised to get the Vineham pickups that I only ordered a couple of days ago but Craig Vineham sent them Express Post for overnight delivery. They are wound flawlessly and I had the option of getting them potted but I figured that I decided to change the pup covers some day, that wouldn't allow it.Anyway the pickups are one of his several PAF types,he has a few PAF types because PAFs had slightly different tones from year to year and the pickups were scatter-wound anyway and the number of winds was usually guesswork.Anyway I wanted my Epi Les Paul Custom (the SG bodied 3 pup '61 reissue) to have the mellow brown sound like Robert Fripp got on "I Talk To The Wind" and "Epitaph" on King Crimson's first album.I hope to put them in tomorrow but it depends on how shaky the old mitts are with the soldering iron or gun.

BTW: The guitar sounds great as it is but with these puppies she should tear the Gyproc off the walls when I plug her into the old Marshall JCM 800 stack.I'm hoping to do a before/after comparison.

Craig Vineham works out of his own workshop and personally hand winds each pickup with expert precision-the pickups are flawless and he wound each pickup specifically for the bridge, middle and neck and included the special caps that he uses plus the gold covers. He only had 2 covers on hand so the middle pickup will have the bobbin exposed until I can find a replacement.I took the cover off one of the potted Epi pickups but the spacing of the polepieces were literally off by just a couple of millimetres,so I have to wait until he can order some from the supplier of all his winding needs,or if I can find some out in town.Blinkers offered to bring her down to his tech guy to see if he has a proper cover.

He's heading out west to Alberta on Monday and I believe that he may be out of the province for a few months.Anyway,he's on FB under his name- Craig Vineham- and he also has pix of his pickups and a link to his website there. His pups won out over a lot from some of the most desirable pickup makers such as Duncan,Lollar,DiMarzio and some others in a blindfold test-so that's a pretty good endorsement in itself.

Hi Alan, this afternoon Blinkers dropped by with his video camera and took a recording of each pickup on its own with the Epis and when the Vineham Sweet 59s are done we're going to record them with the amp on the same settings.

I ordered a set myself only a few days ago. A pair of Vivids and a '59. Had them all potted. Craig said he'd get them wound and shipped by Friday (yesterday). He said he was coming out here to work for the winter near Rocky Mountain House so I guess I got in just under the wire.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hi BMW-KTM,we both got in just under the wire because he leaves on Monday so Friday was the last Mail day before he left. You'll have yours by Wednesday I figure. Blinkers got the bridge pup put in for me and the difference between that and the stock Epi is profound and quite obvious.Blinkers had to stop after doing the bridge pup because he was going buggy-eyed and I couldn't do anything because of not only my eyesight but from the atrophy in my hands.Anyway we managed to get the Epi pickups recorded for comparison but my hands weren't cooperating with me and I even made a mess of a few chords from a light jazzy number I wrote years ago.

Blinkers-you are going to go at it tomorrow? That's plenty good Kimo Sabé,guitar make heap big sounds. The middle pup sounded really bassy when I tried it out, did you disconnect a cap or anything? It sounded like the tone was rolled right back.

I should have ordered a set of humbuckers from him last week but couldn't decide which ones I wanted.

I want a crisper/faster bridge humbucker for my PRS, but want to keep the look. It doesn't look like this guy does gold poles, but I could be wrong?

Alternatively - anyone got any experience with Seymour Duncan Custom Shop?

That's magnifico Blinkers, tanx,I just played with the bridge pup for a short while yesterday and ,never quite got around to hearing how it sounded put through my master volume Marshall 2204 stack.I'll have to try and dig out a path to it somehow so that I can try and split the concrete foundations of the house. If the Epi sounded great when put through the Marshall in that manner, then Craig's pickups should sound out of this world. I finally have a 'bucker equipped guitar that can give the old Guild S-100 NB a run for the money, never thought that I'd see the day."Spanish Castle Magic" is a song that I always try out for natural amp overdriven distortion because I know exactly what sound I want to get and I can't wait to try her out with that song.
