BTW: On your thread about your red EC, I'm still hoping you might talk some of the newer Forum users through the whole thing about the neck carves on that model. You have interesting stuff to say on that subject, and most here won't have heard about it.

Is there something in particular over there now that I should address presently? If not, precisely what did you have in mind?

Well, you've talked in the past about different versions of that guitar and their changing feature list, including the subtle variations on the neck carve. You're one of the people I know who really pays attention to the exact shape of the back of the neck - for example, I'm remembering a detailed conversation you and Nick had where you were talking about measuring the circumference of necks (sort of) with lengths of string in order to compare what sort of a handful Strats like the EC and the HotRod created. And it was all your talk of the shape of the EC sig neck, your discussions with the Custom Shop and such, that got me finding a renewed interest in V-necks - which has been one of the nice things I've got out of this Forum! :)

One way and another you have a lot of detailed thoughts on that subject and I presume that's a big part of why you jumped on the Torino Red EC - no?

But all of this kinda belongs on the other thread...

...Just to bring it back on track and not hijack - throw pickups in the trash? Never! Hey, I even have bunches of crappy old ceramic pickups wasting space at the backs of drawers. If I'd ever owned Abbys, even without knowing, I'd still own 'em!

Never throw anything guitar related away. 8) ... :D

Cheers - C

Reframe this question on the other thread and we'll carry on from there. Now back to our regularly scheduled broadcast.

I dunno......

I've seen ignorant clowns leave perfectly good gear at the curb for the garbage collectors to pick up.

Personally, I save anything usable for eventual recycling -- even used vintage grille cloth and Tolex.

I doubt those people are modding their gear.

Thanks for the historical note and timeline that it gives us. From the prior discussions, in particular the reference to Mike Eldred's forum, we know that she initials pickups whose manufacture she has 'supervised'. Kind of like the JD Powers for you present-day'ers, or the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval for us older folk.

No worries!

I've read elsewhere about the difference between the signed pickups and the ones with the initials. The packaging for my set actually states that she 'supervises' their manufacture.

I got mine as I specifically wanted that late 60's sound, not so much because a particular person wound them - it was the specs that made me choose those particular pickups. I'm not really a 'custom shop' kind of guy, just a hobbyist, but from what I'd read and heard online those ones sounded ideal for me (which, happily, is the case).

Here's another great bit of advertising from the same issue of Fender Frontline.
