It seemed like a waste having a Mighty Mite neck on a Fender Deluxe Strat body so this week's eBay purchase was a 2007 US Standard neck. It's still settling in now, might need another eighth of a turn on the truss rod but WOW this feels better. And the neck's virtually showroom condition, zero fret wear and no dings beyond two tiny headstock chips.

Come on Frank, post your reply in the right thread this time ...

Almost set up now. Maybe a teensy bit less neck relief needed and the intonation needs correcting a bit. Other than that, we are in business here. Plays a whole lot better than the Mighty Mite and I can tell that the guitar "rings" differently now, the midrange response has moved up the frequency spectrum a bit and the sound is more defined. Sounds excellent for slightly overdriven playing, the notes don't mush into each other like they did before. Money well spent, I think that's all the upgrades that Strat's ever going to need now.

Sorry Frank but I think it looked better with the rosewood.

My two cents.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I agree with BMW-KTM on this one. I started buying maple necked guitars and necks a few years ago, because I always wanted to have one on hand for shows with poor lighting (or constant red lighting). Red lights make side fret markers disappear on rosewood necks. Found that out the hard way.

So I had the necks, but they didn't look good with the bodies I had which were mainly dark colored. I think maple necks look best on light colored bodies. White, daphne blue, surf green, etc.. I found that I wasn't even a fan of all black with a maple neck. Not even into maple on sunburst. I don't know. Maybe I'm too picky about it. But that's just the way I am.

I have a couple maple necks lying around here just waiting for bodies because I won't put them on black, dark blue, or red, which is all I have left of bodies.

Looks nice either way, I think it looked better with the rosewood. My opinion of course.

It certainly did look better with the rosewood board ... but it didn't play as well as I wanted, the nitro never really cured properly and it always felt sticky to my hands. And the neck wasn't a genuine Fender part and I couldn't live with it any longer, it just felt like I was sticking a Fender logo on a Squier there. Every time I played it was like the guitar was mocking me, saying "Frank you utter fraud, I'm not a real Fender guitar".

And I've got four more Strats with rosewood boards, I was short of maple. I may just change the pickguard and plastic parts to black versions, I think it would look a lot better that way.

Incidentally, those Asda Smart Price dishwasher tablets are great value for money.

Looks good Frank. Nevermind that old rosewood neck, playability is job one.

Got to say now it's set up nicely I'm thoroughly enjoying this guitar again. I've played it for hours today, my ears are whistling and my fingers hurt and I've got a big stupid smile on my face again. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed playing that much. CS54 pickups, highish action, hit it hard and just hear those chords ring out. Lovely stuff.

Well, as was said playability is king. But personally I think maple necks look better and you can always see the fret markers under stage lights.

I have this wierd yellow colord, had rosewood in there first. ed neck on my backup SX bass and even though it looks like an old urine stain it sure plays nice. So it's staying.
