Drop what you're doing and go see 'Gravity'. Do it now!

Why don't you post the Cliff Notes version of a recap and spare me the cost of a ticket?

Took Mrs. LMN's brother out to dinner tonight. He saw Gravity yesterday.

Said he could barely stay awake and to save our money... to wait for it on Cable.

Clearly, your experience was different, which is great ! :D

But in 56 years of going to the cinema, I've yet to see a film, any film, which would make me drop what I'm doing to go and see it.

The possible exceptions might be: The Seven Beauties (how can you beat Giancarlo Giannini in his prime?) and The Groove Tube (how did this one even get past the censors ?)

cheers!

De gustibus non est disputandum.

This movie suffers from one major flaw - it tries to cash in on the 3D fad, and breaks the 4th wall. This is unforgivable in anything except comedies.

It's basically Kaleidoscope by Ray Bradbury, with a modern setting and the main point of the story removed, because making everybody equal through death would upset an American audience. Got to insert a Disney ending.

We've lost two astronaut crews in the Shuttle program, and one in the Apollo. The possibility of the event featured in "Gravity" should not be discounted as we continue to research, work, and explore off-planet.

Punny, very punny.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Saw it in 3-D the Friday after it opened. I thought it was a way above average space flick. I didn't drop anything to go see it since I had the day off and went alone as I had the whole afternoon to kill off and I was bored. I ate a big pizza buffet lunch and headed for the multiplex.

This film will win special effects Oscar for sure and a slew of other technical awards.

A couple of noted scientists, Dr. Neil deGrasse ("Pluto is not a planet") Tyson of the Hayden Planetarium for one, pointed out a couple of technical errors the next day. (1. Bulloch's hair not floating in weightlessness. 2. Debris orbiting 180 degrees in the wrong direction.) Tyson's never been in space and is a killjoy.

"Gravity" is remarkable in that it seemed as if it is only a few seamless shots from start to finish. The entire film is evocative of the opening sequence of Orson Welles' "A Touch Of Evil" which consumes a great deal of film in a continuous shot and I consider it touchstone cinematography. While they may not have been attempting to expand on his technique intentionally, they none the less did with spellbinding impact.

I frequently get snoozy at films. Not this one though. I don't think watching it at home on Netflix will be as good either. I've seen previews and outtakes on HDTV and it is not quite the same look. Making effects look good on a 50 inch screen is one thing, making them look good in Imax is another. This thing is slick.
