Delay pedals are always fun. You might be able to get a good deal on a Boss DD-6 since they just put out the DD-7, or since you like GnR & Metallica, maybe a WahWah pedal...

A good chorus, a wah pedal, volume pedal, or a Fuzz Face.

You can never go wrong with a fuzz face.

I would definitely agree that after a distortion pedal, a wah is the next logical step. Either that or some sort of modulation pedal. Most likely a chorus or flange pedal. Spend some time at your local shop trying them out before you buy something. Just remember to use something at least close to your actual set up, other wise you won't be able to get a real idea of how it will sound.

Try a Bad Horsie wah. Great with high gain, solidly made, true bypass, and you don't have that annoying toe swtich to turn it on or off. You just put your foot on it and it turns on, remove your foot and it shuts off. Great wah and I've had them all (crybaby, hendrix, other morleys, buddah, clyde mccoy, etc).

Or, look into a phaser (boss ph2 or ph3), can get them used on ebay cheap. To me, they're much more interesting and versatile than the vomitous chorus sound that's too played out and tired to me.

I've definately had fun with my Vox wah. It's a challenge to learn how to use a wah, but very fun. Also, if you're a fan of effects, try the boss line of multi-effects units.

Personally I think the wah pedal is better than the switch like the Boss pedals make. Lets you zone in and out of distortion just by the flip of your foot. That and Dunlop wahs sound WONDERFUL with Strats for some reason.

But hey, foot pedals let you have more fun with zoning in and out of distortion without having to turn a switch on and off constantly, personally I imagine thats great fun. Kind of like those tricks Tom Morello pulls off all the time.

For me it's a compressor and a chorus. Oh yeah, it's been described as taking a blanket off your amplifier....the BBE Sonic Maximizer. I love it.

First pedal I bought was a Boss CE5 Chorus Ensemble. With the possible exception of the Bigg Muff by electroharmonix, Boss makes the best chorus pedals.

I've owned quite a few distortion pedals. The first was a DOD Grunge Pedal (total poo). Then there was the Boss DS1 (good, but not great). And there was the Boss SD1 (cheap, and very nice subtle overdrive). Best one, though is the SansAmp GT2. It's both a distortion pedal and an analogue amp modeler. Probably the best pedal I own.

In my current setup, I also have a Boss Temelo pedal that's decent but not the best and the ElectroHarmonix Holy Grail. Holy Grail is the BEST pedal-based reverb. Only downside is it doesn't have a battery option.

I used to keep a Crybaby Wah in my pedalboard also, but I don't really dig the Crybaby. I may buy a new wah someday, though.

All that said, mostly I just go directly into my amp. I love the tone I get without all the extra crud screwing with my signal.

If you still have your crybaby, there is a mod you can find on ebay (usually called the Fasel Mod), wherein you can replace the inductor, pot and switch to give you more of a 60s wah tone and at the same time makes your pedal true bypass. If you already have a Crybaby laying around collecting dust (like I did) it's definitely worth the $15-$20. Really easy mod too.

Could someone please explain to me what a fuzz face, a chorus, and delay pedals do.

Thanks.

Isnt the big muff a fuzz/overdrive pedal??
And as far as chorus pedals, the ibanez SC10 is awesome, and so is the carl martin, there are much better chorus then the boss ones imo
