Today I ordered a set of 3 custom wound PAFs from winding wizard Craig Vineham. My fellow forum member and buddy Blinkers has gotten several of Craig's custom wound pickups and they are just jaw-dropping great-he can even wind Strat-style single coils to sound just like P-90s.An independent blindfold test of Vineham pickups against several of the industry standards such as Lollar,Duncan,Di Marzio etc. the Vinehams won every category hands down.I don't know the particulars on who did the trials but Blinkers could most likely remember the ins and of outs of it.I know that not all PAFs sounded alike but I know the PAF sound that I want and that's the George Harrison Lucy sound from "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" or the sound that Robert Fripp got on "Epitaph" and "I Talk To The Wind" from King Crimson's first album.

Craig's prices are very reasonable considering the quality and sound of the pickups.I'm just waiting for him to call me back for the info etc. and hopefully I'll have what is now a great sounding guitar, made into a phenomenal guitar in 2 or 3 weeks.

What are you going to put three PAF's into? I have Seymour Duncan / Joe Bonamassa limited edition PAF's in my Carvin and it's my best sounding guitar. They were a little pricey at $375 for the pair, but I'm happy with them. I hope you like your new pups.

I have a horrible dose of the flu and it has muddled my brain-more so than it's usually muddled-and I entirely forgot to mention the guitar they were going into. I'll be putting the pickups in my '61 reissue Epiphone Les Paul Custom (SG body) and they should cost me around $300 for the set as he sells them separately for $110 each and 2 for $200. For the quality of pickup I'm getting I don't mind paying that for them at all. He'll be sending me his V-59s which will give me the Robert Fripp King Crimson tone.He winds several PAF style pickups because not all PAFs were alike, some were hot and overwound while others were warm and mellow and others may have had a warm neck pickup and a real screamer on the bridge pickup. He really has a great ear and can fine tune pickups to exacting specs.

Nice to see you made the call. Make sure you tell him exactly the tone you're looking for. He does wind some great pups. I've used them in all my strats and LP's for the past couple of years. The latest pickup I have in my strat is just amazing, it's called the Raw Dog and gives a really nice P90 growl that I love.

For those who crave for that trademark JM scoop without desperately waiting for the original Fender Big Dipper pickups Vineham offers their own Dippers pickup set.

Meticulously handwound, "Dippers" are made with plain enamel wire for that clear transparent tone. Vineham's "Dipper" winding delivers a generous amount of highs and lows creating gorgeous glassy clean tones and a smooth, woody overdriven sound upon demand. "Dippers" boast Alnico 5 vintage-stagger magnets, vintage-correct fiber bobbins and are wax potted with their special beeswax/paraffin mixture.

Hi Alan, from what I have heard in the tone improvement of Blinkers' guitars,I know that the Epi will really sing.I like having the 3 volume controls because when you roll the middle pickup volume off completely you basically have a regular SG-albeit with a single tone control. It has been so long since I played a 3 pup Epi/Gibson with the 3 'buckers that I forget what the set up was for them but I don't believe that there was provision for each to be used separately or for all 3 to be used at the same time.
