I've been to my local music store(s), been to the nearest GC, Sam Ash, surfed other music stores on-line, taken part in musical forums and have found a lack of novel products/ideas. It seems like it's just more of an abundance of the same old, same old. I was wondering if anybody knew of a website that had more novel equipment/ideas, i.e. effect pedals that don't color your tone, accessories that are actually useful, technical tricks of the trade that one can pull off to change things up a bit. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! 8)

It's because the electric guitar is so amazing. Good guitar, good amp, plug straight in, little bit of reverb or delay....can't beat that tone. Can't beat the instrument as far as touch sensitivity....controlling the sound so much by how hard one picks.

And I'm a Nirvana guy.....falling more and more in love with sharp, piercing, "shimmering," bell-like, clean tone.

I'm not sure the last statement is entirely true.

Yeah. I wish I could play the Theremin. It might just be the most difficult instrument in the world to play well. That guy surely does pull magic from thin air, though.

Great, just another way of letting the others potentially spy on you! :|

Semi-related...I recently skimmed through a Guitar World magazine...and laughed all the way to the last page.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Good thread title. Very descriptive. Very accurate.

Back in the day quality tube amps were the best and all the "new" stuff that came out was crap. Today the crap keeps changing every day. Different versions, new flavours, exciting new colour schemes, special editions, ... and yet ... quality tube amps are the best. Same goes for F/X. The more things change, the more they stay the same. You answered your own question, Jim. Sorry to hear you're bored with the good stuff .... that is ... unless you've never tried the good stuff in which case you have a clear path forward.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The OP title also applies to life. Like Dan Auerbach said:

It don't matter where you've been
The people try to do you in
Every day till dawn
There's some thievin' goin' on

Oh, oh no
Hurt me so

Just the same old thing
Just the same old thing
No matter how much love you try to bring
Just the same old thing

You got a callous heart
From being torn apart
Now you labor every day
Love life drifts away

Oh, oh no
It hurts me so

Just the same old thing
Just the same old thing
No matter how much love you try to bring
Just the same old thing
