What is the likely hood of of YouTube having audio problems when playing a video? I noticed this when playing a video. It was perfectly fine yesterday. I checked all connections to the computer and all is okay in that department. The speakers are turned on. I shut the computer down and then started it back up,...had audio then as I heard that music that you hear when it boots up. Could the computer itself still be at fault?

The player has changed to start up muted, for security/privacy reasons. You have to unmute it the first time you use it.

I finally found the problem,...I don't know how it happened,...but I discovered that I inadvertently muted the volume on youtube by clicking the "speaker" symbol below the video display. When intending to hit the "play/pause" icon, I must have slipped the mouse over the speaker icon by mistake without even knowing it. All is good. I did check my flash player and it's up to date,...so that wasn't the problem. Thanks for the input, anyway!

No, you didn't slip and hit the mute. As stated above, the player has changed and now starts muted, and you have to unmute it the first time (or every time after restarting your browser if you don't allow storing settings locally).

Ummm, I just got through watching several guitar videos on YouTube and had to do no such thing. Audio started as soon as the video started up. Nor are there any such settings on my YouTube account or browser (FireFox).

I have Firefox also, and have no such setting on my browser or YouTube account, either. I found I unintentionally clicked the little "speaker" icon next to the "play/pause" icon and muted the volume. Clicked that and now have sound back. Audio starts as soon as video starts. Don't mean to repeat myself, but just reiterating what I had to do to get audio back. :D

Just because you don't know about it doesn't mean it's not there nor that the defaults haven't changed.

Right-click a video. Choose "Global Settings". In the "Storage" panel, if "Block all sites from storing information on the computer" is checked, no site can store your preferences, and it will revert to defaults every time you restart your browser. If you don't have it checked, you save the settings locally, and it will continue to work until or unless you clear the data through other means, like an external cleanup program, or switching between computers. At that point, you too will find your mute button activated the next time (unless Adobe reverts this change, due to the great confusion it has caused).

There's a lot of talk about this on the web - people who couldn't figure out what happened, and the usual deniers. Most of us just hit "unmute" and moved on. Some of us learned to hit "unmute" every time after restarting our browser, because our privacy settings required that.

Frankly, I don't give a damn.

I don't give a damn, either, but every time I bring my Firefox browser up, I also have to UNMUTE to hear a YouTube video. It is a new thing. I guess folks were blowing up their computer's audio...

Just the latest questionable decision by whoever is behind YouTube. It's my favorite site on the Internet, but they constantly make pointless changes that just confuse the hell out of me. :?

More like someone posting a deceptive link to a Youtube video on a board that may be relevant to work, but the link isn't. Suddenly the office is filled with (if lucky) "Never gonna give you up". If unlucky, well, certain sounds can probably get people fired.
