I rarely see gold hardware that I think looks good on a guitar. It looks too wannabe pimpin' to me. The only exception I can think of is the Gretch White Falcon.

Highline...I don't know I kind of like Gold on this one...even though Fender took it to the limit on this one!

Yes, I have.

Some guitars just don't look right with gold hardware, and i firmly believe that just like anything else you have to first be visually attracted to your guitar before you even pick it up to see what it sounds like. But on the other hand, if you find a guitar that sounds amazing, and it just happens to have gold hardware.....well then, maybe I'm not putting it back.

This is my LP Studio, it has been in my possession since the early 90's. It's from '92 I believe, but this is what over 20 years of aging will do to gold hardware. It's not pretty, but It's all mine....from the permanent marker "art" that was so eagerly applied by my two year old son at the time, to all the dings, scratches and marks that have manifested throughout the years.

That gold painted one needs some knobs and a switch tip.

There are few instruments that require gold hardware's visual aesthetics. All other preferences remain personal:Image

I think the gold works on my strat. It's a 1996 and the finish is holding up very well. The black peghead and ebony fingerboard probably help make the gold work on this one. Just an opinion.

Arjay, nice axes for sure. As is T2's all gold model.

Now I'm not saying I'd kick them out for eating crackers in bed. But for myself, I'm a simple man with simple tastes...

Thanks, Highline.

LPB with gold bling actually looks pretty tasteful as well......

This is a CIJ '65 Premium Vintage re-issue with a bound rosewood fretboard.

Arjay,

The LPB definitely has a certain elegance to it. I dig the bound fretboard as well.

Cheers!

I like gold with an aged white finish...

I have passed on guitars with gold when it just didn't click with me.

Gold just works on certain colors and gives them a classy look. LPB, Sunburst, Black, White, CAR, Natural, and of course Aztec Gold. There were some VERY classy looking guitar pics posted here, nothing like "Gold Porn"!

Aesthetically, Gold looks OK on some guitars. But, Gold won't stay gold for nearly as long as Chrome plated steel will. Then it just looks like sh*t. While both can be protected from corrosion or pitting using a paste wax, the Gold is simply softer than Chrome and will wear off in no time.

+2

This pretty much sums up my feelings about gold hardware on guitars. My body chemistry just eats that thin coloring.

I'm actually considering getting a PRS with gold hardware because it otherwise looks so good and has nice fat humbuckers, but I'm a bit skeptical as to how well it'll last.

Well, it won't last.

How soon it degrades really depends on how, and how often, it's handled.

Assuming cosmetics rule over playability, I think the consideration should be can you still enjoy it once the yellow starts going away? Of course, there's always the option of selling it at that point too.

If the aesthetics don't bother you on an otherwise excellent playing guitar, then go for it !

I did. Gorgeous woods, lightly used, but extremely playable HH with low action and two full octave frets. I was a bit skeptic to both PRS and gold hardware, but they seem to make quite decent guitars. The only thing I didn't like was the 3 way switch, which certainly isn't the same quality as on my Teles.
