Post subject: fretboard wood type.

So some might think this is a stupid question.. But on my electric fender the fretboard is a darker wood then the rest of the maple neck. What kind of wood is that called?[youtube][/youtube]

Most likely rosewood, though I'm sure there are some models with ebony.

If it's dark brown, it's rose, if it's black, then it's ebony.

There are some with Brazilian ironwood too, like the SRV strat. I wouldn't touch one, given how allergenic that wood is. Worse than poplar.

Rosewood, is going to have a varied grain to it, depending on it's country origin. This is a Caribbean Rosewood. (Chechen) From the Yucatan.

Ebony isn't always black...there's also variations with lighter hues and streaks through the grain.

Unstained ebony (as seen above on the guitar, not the radio) can come with some interesting looks.
